What challenges do organizations face when developing a design strategy?

Another spray of confusion "Powered by AI"! First of all, there is no such thing as a "design strategy", except in the imagination of the confused sources that the "AI" (sic!) has ingested and then spitted out into wannabe articles like this. "Design", within a strategic context, makes sense only as Design Thinking, a discipline brought into the business environment by David Kelley, who has founded IDEO in 1991. Design Thinking has a place within the Strategy Experimentation cycle that feeds solution types insights about solving categories of customer Jobs-to-Be-Done, facilitating the decisions for selecting the mix of Strategic Choices that represent the foundation of any Strategy. This initial "article" is just lip-service junk.

Double down on understanding your stakeholders: What do they need, what do they care about and how they are incentivized? My experience is that without early engagement and buy-in, no strategy survives first contact with the (internal) customer. "Change happens at the speed of trust"

Communication and storytelling are critical for bringing others along the strategic journey. My experience creating presentations and campaigns would enable me to craft compelling narratives around the design strategy. I would tailor messaging and mediums to resonate with the various audiences.

Before presenting the solution, you must do the Prototype step. A small pilot or create a mock-up to ensure no hidden issues.

Define your metrics of what success looks like and make sure the measures are shared frequently in a forum where they can be discussed together with eventual corrective actions.

Learning from the mistakes on the strategy is big steps where many struggle. Reason is, you are so focussed on the strategy development is missing to see it is not working. Open your ears and seek feedback. When making adjustments to the strategy, the key element to focus and remember is communication. Here is my recommendation to do it effectively. - Involve all stakeholders - Ensure you acknowledge the flaws in the existing strategy - Seek feedback from the everyone - Be open for thoughts to recreate strategy if required - Collection ideas - Enhance your strategy so it is flexible and not face same challenges while execution - Communicate, Communicate, Communicate you revised strategy.

I experienced a problem when team members did not have the same (or similar) understanding of what common strategy should be. Do not mix it with agreeing. Cocnlusion was that there should be preparation seminar so that all team members should be familiarized how Company operate, what are good and weak points, who are competitors, what is Company's status, what is the main product, etc. After all team members are familiarized with information mentioned they can start to talk about how to design strategy.

All six points mentioned here as challenges are critical to designing & developing the business strategy. In my experience the leader and his ability to imbibe growth mindset in the leadership team has won plaudits. Forecasts are just projections of the past and ideas & actions that we have seen before. Strategy deals with uncertainty, has risks, and scenarios not previously seen or experienced. New solutions to undefined problems is a major challenge.
