If parents are unresponsive, seeking the support of the school authority or staff member will be necessary. I have been in a similar situation where trying to reach a child's parent who often would not do homework was difficult. I had to speak to our team lead who also escalated it and finally, the parents responded to the meeting and the result was very positive. The child improved and began doing homework. When asked about what they did differently, I was told that they got someone to assist the child while they were engaged with other things. So, seeking support is very important.

If a child's parent is so disinterested in their child's education, there's every chance the child has a difficult home life. Ensure whatever frustration you may have at the non-communicative parent doesn't unconsciously spill over to the child. In fact, it's likely that the child needs every bit of love, care, patience, and empathy you can muster.
