When reaching out though, I highly suggest asking for their expertise on something. People love giving advice because advice is a form of nostalgia. Use that to your advantage. Get them talking then ask open-ended curious questions to keep the conversation going. Before long they'll be asking you about yourself and then you can bring your value to the table. To an extent, it's a numbers game. But you can sway the odds slightly if you reach out strategically. Go get em!
