Whatever the answer is, talk to your manager before you get too far down this road - they will appreciate you for it. Your boss isn't looking for perfection they want someone they can trust to deliver and someone who can honestly tell them when/why they can't.

You can innovate without "risking" anything, especially if you do your homework first.
