I think that in the future, tools will appear that can centrally manage even if there are many complicated and numerous types of information, which will lead to greater convenience and operational efficiency.

If the only time you are testing your procedures is during a live incident, you are in store for some nasty surprises. While documenting incident response and other plans is an important first step, security teams will often run into these issues during tabletop exercises: - "The procedure says to contact the public relations team...who is on that team?" - "What are the criteria for contacting customers about an incident? Are these even the right criteria?" - "Our plan says to contact the CEO. Does this really require his attention?" Working these things out ahead of time, rather than on the fly, is the best way to go.

How resilient your organization is in that moment will determine its ability to come back. Think Assume Breach. The basic idea is the PDCA cycle. We need to change our approach to improvement, review, and incident response. Discuss the review of security policies as a team, consult with information security architecture, and do so after receiving advice. It is also necessary to generate statistics based on past data to predict the future. As a result, the data can be visualized by providing statistics, making it easier to take countermeasures. You can use it as a lesson.

Do not re-invent the wheel every time there is a problem or challenge to address. Standard operating procedures (SOP) can greatly reduce the time needed to close out a given issue. They can include things like: - Those responsible, accountable, or informed - Specific actions they will take and when - Criteria for opening/closing incidents - Root cause analysis procedures - Documentation of results Oftentimes security teams result to Slack channels or conference call bridges with little direction or organization. These waste valuable organizational energy without delivering results. Standardize response plans, and execute them.

Would agree with some of the other comments here with one important exception. Not every challenge will be a standard challenge and will require a different approach to solving for them as these challenges will be unknown-unknowns v. unknown-knowns. Security organizations can often act like a hammer and see every issue as a nail. Sometimes there are challenges that will require an experimental approach. When that happens SOPs cannot apply (unless there is an SOP approach for complexity). Here are some "complex" examples: -Regulatory Compliance across many Jurisdictions -Advanced Persistent Threats or -Internet of Things (IoT) Security to name a few. Ruthlessly automate processes. For any process that is manual, it’s worth investigating if it can be automated. Having a security engineering team dedicated to building and automating security processes helps teams scale as more and more incidents are detected.

3 Strategies that have helped me improve efficiency when leading operations are: 1. driving Alignment, 2. ensuring Collaboration, and 3. increasing Engagement. Your team is Aligned when they all have the same objectives with relevant targets to achieve and a data driven performance tracker that helps drive continuous improvements. Collaboration across various functions (including HR, Internal IT, partner management, etc.,) provides the necessary resources and support to the operations team to be highly efficient. Engaged teams understand the importance of their role and the difference their performance can make to their clients. They are motivated individually and as a team to raise their game and are recognized for their achievement.

This includes building a culture of security awareness throughout the organization, investing in technology that can scale with your business, and establishing strong governance practices to guide your cybersecurity efforts. Additionally, staying informed about industry standards and regulatory requirements can ensure your operations not only meet current benchmarks but are also poised to adapt to future changes in the cybersecurity landscape.

Consider how you're measuring efficiency. If you're looking at lines of code or utilization % of time, you're setting incentives for the wrong outcomes. Automation should be a key focus everywhere to ensure your teams aren't doing work that tools and scripts can do better and faster. This enables them to focus on tasks requiring more critical thinking such as deciding where to next automate. It may be that the existing team doesn't have the skills to build tools and automations. You'll need to hire or train to fill those gaps as a priority or it will be near impossible to get ahead at scale.
