One of my most useful team building activities is a "Favorite Things" Party! It can be a virtual party if your team is remote. Have everyone on your team bring 2-3 techniques, industry best practices found, or skill-building strategies to the party. The team talks through each of theirs at random (so not new hires first and not the leadership team first, either). In doing this, your team will be able to leverage the skills and "bag of tricks" of your most experienced team members, but you will also include and validate the new techniques used by your newest team members also. Everyone is sure to walk away from this "hangar talk" with 1-2 new things to try the next time they are in the field. Keep doing these regularly!

There is genuine reluctance to grow teams. Perhaps, it is a fear of losing teammates. If you have a high-performing team, it is hard to think about losing someone and shaking up the team dynamics. I get it! But how many times have you worked for or with someone who valued you and outwardly showed it by investment in you and your career? I would guess you were fiercely loyal to that person. You will find the same to be true in growing and investing in additional skills with your team! Seek out new technologies purposefully. Train at least one on your team to be a subject matter expert. Send them to conferences so they can interact with the industry! Grow your team fearlessly! Watch the contracts roll in due to your team's expertise.
