I like a term taught by a mentor, "Slow down to speed up." When tasks stack up and there doesn't seem to be enough time or resources to finish a project, it is time to slow down and think through the constraints. Practice lean thinking to identify the DOWNTIME factors (Defects, Over-production, Wait time, Non-utilized talent, Transportation, Inventory buildup, Motion, Extra processing). Any one of the DOWNTIME contributors might be a cause of constraints which, when addressed and removed, will help to move the projects along more effectively.
