As the company's founder and CEO, I wear the mentor hat - in general for the entire team and specific to members directly reporting to me. Sometimes, I observe a specific talent - not directly reporting to me - and arrange a one-to-one session at my initiative. To give up on non-responsive mentees is an unrealistic approach. It is my job not to give up on my members. Whether bitter or forced, whenever there is a difference of opinion and a lack of action on areas that require immediate attention, I initiate dialogue with the mentee from my side. Together, we revisit the situation and the causes of friction, inefficiency or lack of follow-up action. This requires patience and time, but in most cases, communication is appreciated.

We can always learn something. From everyone. Whether it’s your mentor, your peer, of your direct report. If the relationship strains, try not to hold grudges; rather be appreciative that the relationship formed and take the lessons and pay it forward.
