What do you do if your performance evaluation results aren't impressing employers?

Highlight your commitment to growth and improvement on your resume and in job interviews, showcasing specific examples of how you've addressed feedback and made positive changes. Emphasize your strengths, accomplishments, and unique value proposition to demonstrate your potential to excel in your next role. Remember, setbacks can be turned into opportunities for growth and development.

I would ask some probing questions to your employer on the reasons behind their questions on performance. Ask what exactly performance metrics they were expecting. In cases like this there many have to be some interventions from HR to mediate and devise a solution. If the issues persists, clarify exactly almost to the point of what they are expecting in writing. You may ask to have an internal mentor or internal/external coach to guide and empower you so you can achieve their performance metrics.

Consider your response to this information and make space and time to process this before you get into the analysis and process of addressing the feedback. When you do start working on what is required map out timelines, support and outcomes if your performance does or does not improve. Put this in writing and make regular progress checks part of this too. If appropriate also find out how your performance measures up against peers, ideally to learn from and be supported by those achieving the results you need to achieve. Lastly, check the culture in your part of the business is genuinely keen to see you improve in a reasonable timeframe.

Be the solution oriented guy. And in order to find a solution; 1- you need the understand the problem and the root causes of it. Do you need more training? More product knowledge? Soft skills development? Is it in your personal life? And so on. Now you can go ahead and think of a solution. But the key is about presenting it in a clear and achievable action plan. Bonus: Provide ways to track and evaluate progress before your next performance evaluation.

From my perspective, self-questioning is crucial for personal growth. In a company where there’s a culture of providing constructive feedback and aiding in personal development, performance evaluations shouldn’t come as a surprise. If either the employer or the employee is surprised during a performance evaluation, it suggests that expectations were not adequately communicated. So my suggestions would be to give clear objectives to employees right from the beginning and imbibe a culture of giving feedback regularly, so that outputs of performance evaluation is properly backed with reviews given in the past.

I believe is also, to be honest, and aware of our own capacities. The most important is also to understand what exactly your Manager wants for you. If your Manager sees you already with no capacity to reach their goals my point will be to acknowledge the fact that you are not yet there & present what you need from them to reach the goal. From this, you will see his/her reactions. From experience, if your Manager did not bring you into training or work closely with you toward the goal his/her decision is already made.
