You've spent many years developing a product that was not yours. Take that experience into a new chapter of your life. What is it that you have always wanted to do and did not have time because you were so busy working? Start doing that. Apply your PM skills to add value in the area where your passion lies. Build the minimal viable product and pitch to investors. Embrace the American Dream, create a new life, a new possibility for yourself. My mom has always treated any job she had as if her little work space was her own small business. Never did she think that she will be running her own. Yet here she is at 68 realizing that running her own 2 year old business is the most rewarding thing she has ever done. You can do it too. Be brave!

Layoff is top most challenging situation, its very hard to deal with. According to me, First we need try to clam down and understand the situation, Then try to update resume up to the mark as well as the LinkedIn profile, Reach to the HR over email with your skills and strength not seeking help with publicly but of course utilize your network. Keep focus on learning new thigs, you can consider some part-time job, Lastly I would suggest you to take lesson and try to build some emergency fund to tackle this kind situation and avoid loan as much as possible.

As a product manager facing a layoff, it will be worst nightmare. Still, it's important to stay positive and proactive. Networking will open doors you wouldn’t even knew existed. Search for Product groups in your city, Meetup app is a good start. Meet new people and build relations. We all know referrals are way more effective than you applying for a job.

What I found to be useful is being open to positions that are adjacent in nature to product management roles such as a product owner, project manager, business analyst, scrum master or even a role in business development. If product management is the right role for you, then take a chance and look at other industries that utilize product management roles. Surprisingly, the areas in which product management roles exist are plentiful- not just in the tech space, but in the banking/financial sector, communications, e-commerce, entertainment, healthcare, and so on… So don’t get discouraged. Stay positive, update your resume, keep your network close and go for it.
