We are too small to have managers over each area and their role is part of an integrated security strategy by one person having insight into the interconnectedness of the systems and processes. There is better end-to-end risk management and a more efficient incident response and plan in place.

The role of a cyber security manager requires a combination of technical, managerial, and soft skills. Those essential skills and qualifications include a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field, professional certification such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA, at least five years of experience in cyber security, network administration, or a related field, knowledge of cyber security frameworks, standards, and best practices such as NIST, ISO, or PCI-DSS, understanding of cyber security tools, technologies, and methodologies such as firewalls, encryption, antivirus, SIEM, IDS/IPS or ethical hacking; a grasp of network protocols, architectures and systems such as TCP/IP, LAN/WAN VPN or cloud computing; good leadership communication and problem-solving skills; a high level of attention to detail; analytical thinking; decision-making skills; and the willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing cyber security environments.
