What impact does student feedback have on educational reform?

As a student, I have seen firsthand the significant impact that our opinions and feedback can have on educational reform. In my experience, student feedback has the power to: Enhance our learning experiences: By sharing our thoughts and experiences, we have helped our teachers identify areas for improvement and make positive changes in the classroom. This has led to more engaging lessons and a better understanding of the material. Promote continuous improvement: By actively participating in the feedback process, we are helping to create a culture of continuous improvement within our school. This benefits not only current students but also future generations, ensuring that our education remains responsive and inclusive.

Well, learner feedback is one of the most important parameters to cross-check the offering or product. we can feel the success of our offering with solid recommendations or ratings given by the learners which is evidence that we are leading in a correct path. At times we may need to reexamine the overall journey with the constructive feedback received from the learners. However, learner feedback will help us to replicate our offering to the other clients and at times as a pit stop to reexamine our offering.

Many times the greatest voice in the room are the students. To gather student voice one could use a student panel in a leadership season. Administrators/teachers/district leaders ask students specific questions pertaining to the systems of the school, the instruction within the classroom, feedback provided by teachers, assessments, and other areas specific to the organization. I have found student panels to be powerful and rewarding. Some questions that could be considered to ask students with the audience of principals/APs/teacher leaders in the room: Given the chance, what would be one change you would like to see made in our school pertaining to the daily systems? Tier 1 instruction is where the reformation of education can begin. All students, no matter disability or ability, have tier 1 instruction every day in all contents. Feedback from students about that tier 1 instruction is powerful and will enhance the understanding of what allows students to learn. We hear the term differentiation all the time, one of those buzz words in education. Let's talk about how to make it doable. Start by adding TAPS to every lesson cycle. No matter the content, have students work in TOTAL group, ALONE, in PARTNERs and then in SMALL GROUPS. After the lesson cycle, gain feedback on how to make each process more meaningful. It is then that leaders will find what students value.

Students tend to be extremely tech-savvy and can provide invaluable feedback on the effectiveness of educational technology tools. They are critical stakeholders since the point of investing in technology is to enhance student learning outcomes. The worst thing you can do is choose technology students don't engage with well.

As both an assistant principal, principal, and district leader it is important to rely on student voice. I suggest to put it on your calendar to pull a group of students to your office, or ensure you attend Student Council meetings, or make a point to have a question of the day in lunch as you complete duty to gain insight. You can also ask teachers to poll students for the question of the day in class. All have powerful application to continuous feedback. One of the biggest lessons I have learned in leadership, feedback does not have to be formal, but rather intentional. Use time where you already have an audience to gain perspectives. End of Year: The end of year for admin and teachers can be hard. It is during these moments where pausing will be important. Now is not the time to gain feedback. People are tired and done and ready for break. Give it to them. Write what you want feedback on, and from who. Then pause. Wait to gain that feedback when people have had time to breathe. Don't run ahead to what next year brings, in this moment, be still.
