"Art is discernment.." - AI creativity is algorithmic, based on learned patterns without original thought or cultural context. While AI can combine styles and generate endless variations, it doesn't originate ideas or understand their significance or the abstract relations to each other, so AI's creativity is a powerful tool but fundamentally different from the human creative process.

As I've seen firsthand, AI's function as a creative assistance is changing how artists approach the creation of art. By delegating technical duties to AI, such as creating intricate backdrops or suggesting changes, artists can devote more time to the intellectual and original components of their work. This move not only boosts productivity, but it also improves the artist's connection with conceptual and emotional levels of their work.

AI is like an artistic partner who throws out wild color ideas, sketches drafts in seconds, and sparks never-before-seen concepts. That's the magic of AI art assistants. They can supercharge exploration and ignite innovation. Relying on them too much can make art feel uniform, like everyone's using the same paintbrush. A lot of people criticize AI when it comes to artistic endeavors, as an artist myself, I can understand the danger than AI represents in this situation. Artists on social media already face great difficulty to have their art seen and noticed by the world, so having to compete with machines with such an advanced generative skill is alarming. But I don't think we should put a red flag on this technology entirely. You see, this kind of tool can be used responsibly, to aid creatives to gather ideas, and even visualize them before working on their piece. Think of it as a creative assistant, saving you time on sketching down your ideas, and even get advice from a different, more critical point of view with stricter rules! Always be original!

A baby born would not have any artistic ideas. The surroundings,atmosphere shapes the baby’s imagination. Same is applicable to artists as well. Hence, my take is that original human imagination is also based on the individual’s experience and AI also imagines based on past data. If you want to be fair with AI, this debate should not arise. If you want to be empathetic to we humans, let’s consider the perspective as well.

This debate on originality of AI generated (augmented ) art work is an important and long going. Even I have this debate with my own son who is an aspiring artist, the thought of a 10 year old are that he expresses his concerns about the originality of art is through humans only and consiers AI generated art work as just artificial. In his opinion the AI art work lacks human complex imagination, emotion and the pure creative aspect; which AI may not possible able to substantiate irrespective of advancements. Argument that we have in counter that let's use AI tool to enhance the art creation and supplement it with human traits. In my perspective, the artist is so much involved in the art work that AI process looks mechanical to many.

Show me one artist who can claim their work was entirely original, without any external inspiration. The creative process involves taking inspiration from various sources. Artists read, observe, and gather data from their surroundings, natural sources, or other creations. They develop ideas based on this accumulated knowledge from stories or personal observations. AI follows a similar process, but with the ability to process and store data much faster than humans. The key difference is that AI lacks the innate urge to create. Thus, AI is an incredibly powerful tool for humans, enhancing our capabilities rather than replacing human creativity.

When AI produces art, it often remixes and reinterprets existing data, leading to debates about whether the end product can be considered original or merely derivative. I believe ethical concerns go beyond the Digital scape and have real-world implications for human artists who derive economic value from their practiced skill and creativity, without IP protections extended for the creative content produced and watermarked the foundational models that use the data without properly compensating the artists essentially equates to piracy/stealing of intellectual property or a trademark. AI only works as a complement for non-creative people while kneecapping the artists.

Artists need to lead the talk about the moral use of AI and make sure that these tools are used in a way that doesn't take away from human creativity. Strategically embedded into digital content to negatively affect the training datasets of machine learning models if used without authorization. It represents a proactive approach to IP protection. Large Language Models (LLM), which use vast amounts of IP data for training, are particularly targeted by this method. Intentional data poisoning is emerging as a deterrent strategy against IP infringement, designed to disrupt the effectiveness of AI models that train on misappropriated data. This approach is still developing, but it highlights the ongoing efforts to secure artists' rights in the age of AI-driven creation.

I think ultimately that AI will force artists to create totally new art forms that mix a hybrid of what is known and blend traditional artistic techniques with proficiency in data science and machine learning, positioning them uniquely in the art world. Last year, we collaborated with the agency 'The Minimalist' and tried out a completely AI-generated campaign called 'Killer Fashion' against animal cruelty in fashion. With that experience, I infer, AI is a tool to execute your ideas, like Photoshop or illustrator. It can be used in the initial conception phase of design for prototyping and tweaking the design. It is not easy or magical to get the desired output on the first go. It needs a lot of prompting and re-prompting, which might consume time. The final result lies in the master hands of the human behind the project.
