When it comes to ML, both python and R have worked excellent choice for me as statistician seeking to stay competitive. For me, it’s not either/or situation, as each language offers unique strengths and weaknesses. I chose R language over python few times, because it have extensive functionality for statistical analysis, modelling and graphics. Also, offers powerful lib like ggplot2 for creating insightful and publication quality visualisations. If you want a versatile language for diverse projects, a large community and prioritise deep learning application then go for python. If you want to prioritise advanced statistical analysis,prefer a language built for statistics and value powerful visualisation capabilities then go for R

Mostly, scikit learn is ideal for beginners, quick prototyping and working with large datasets especially if you’re already comfortable with python whereas, caret is excellent for in-depth analysis, customisation and utilising R statistical strength, best suited for experienced R users.

On the R side, Caret complements my toolkit with its user-friendly design and comprehensive support for various machine learning models. The consistency in interfaces between the two libraries has allowed me to transition effortlessly between Python and R, adapting to project requirements and collaborating with diverse teams. Both Scikit-learn and Caret extend beyond model training, offering utilities and functions that streamline preprocessing, evaluation, and model comparison.

SQL databases adhere to a relational model, organizing data into tables with predefined schemas and relationships. On the other hand, NoSQL databases embrace a non-relational model, allowing the storage of data in diverse formats such as documents, graphs, or key-value pairs. This flexibility is invaluable for handling unstructured or semi-structured data, accommodating a wide range of data structures and formats.

Cloud computing offers a lot of advantages especially when you start running a financial or B2C business at scale. 1) Data privacy and safety: most cloud provider will ensure the data is safegarded. 2) Scalability and cost: you will be able to run models on unlimited amount of machines / for a very cheap price less than 1% of what you would get if you had to buy your own machines. 3) Productionize code and improve computing speed: once you've tested your model on your local machine, you can automate processed and keep running the model / updating parameters in a production friendly fashion: it will keep running live at any time, and will run fast thanks to 'cloud computation' Main barrier? Getting familiar with it: then it's worth it.

Statisticians in machine learning should not only develop technical skills, but also emphasise ethics and responsibility. Integrating ethical principles (such as data privacy) and responsibility (such as fair applications) is crucial to not only create innovative solutions, but to ensure that they are in line with societal values. Python, R and ML frameworks are just the foundation. Keep reminding yourself of this.
