Communicate, be transparent and set clear expectations of process. If you can do that you will put yourself well above the current experience most people are experiencing. Golden rule really applies here so treat others as you would like to be treated. Additionally, give them insights into the role, company and hiring managers to make sure they are prepared to succeed in the process. Lastly- if they don’t get the job follow up and give feedback to help them with their next opportunity

Communication and transparency is absolutely key. The best recruiters outline the recruitment process for the candidate and then bring updates to that candidate at each stage of the process. Not only only does this build trust with the recruiter, it builds a foundation of trust with the potential employer.

And, you can gain a lot from the questions that they ask! In the same interview or in a later one, let the candidate offer feedback and input on something that shows their expertise. I've found that trust is built on a foundation of vulnerability. I see the interview as a 2 way street where 'people' try to connect in as comfortable a way as possible...given the contrived and often asymmetric nature of the relationship.

I can’t stress this point enough for candidates……. Be honest. If you do not know something like an acronym or have the exact experience in the area, say so! It’s more about showing how your experiences can be leveraged and transferred to solve the existing problems and issues. For example, you may be asked about projects in a specific industry that you have no experience with, ask if the challenges are similar to a project in another industry that you are familiar with. Managing time, people and resources well is usually more important than the SME experience.
