Involving employees in hiring process, gives them an inner feeling that Mgmt is trusting them and giving an additional responsibility to choose their team members/ choose future hires who will report to them. Involving employees can be done by motivating them, training them how to conduct interviews, telling them about the benefits of acting as panel member in Interviews, how to choose their juniors. Selecting the right employees is not always just about selecting the required qualifications, background or experience. It goes way beyond this; it takes alot of knowledge about the company's vision, mission, culture, values as well DEI objectives to select a candidate. Clear unbiased policies must be defined beforehand. Candidates must have a clear view on what it takes for an organization to onboard them.

Very little times I have called up a colleague asking him to take part/help on interviews for their team and they have said no… You need to make sure you are selecting the right people for the right interview and that you give them enough training for them to feel comfortable. Example: - Technical interview for a senior developer. Put the lead developer/tech lead/other senior devs. Junior developers might not be the right colleague to be in there unless it is like a full team chat. Also, you need to make sure, in every process, candidates can see people from the team, who will be their direct manager and ideally introduce them to department leadership while creating a diverse panel to represent the business.

Firstly, convince them of their crucial role in this process. Educating them about how their involvement supports the company's vision is essential. They should understand that such tasks aren't solely the responsibility of the HR department, but a collective effort that contributes to the overall success and culture of the organization. Before the actual interview, engage colleagues and peers in the process of defining competencies for the position. This should encompass not only direct team members but also colleagues who will be directly affected by the product and/or communications associated with the role.

A balanced interview panel would include: 1. Manager - to evaluate leadership potential, team alignment, and alignment to corporate goals. 2. Direct Reports - to check team dynamics and evaluate leadership style compatibility 3. Functional Peers - to check Technical fit and Hard Skills 4. Cross-functional peers - to evaluate the potential for cross-functional collaboration and organizational fit.
