What are the most effective ways to succeed in your first year of teaching?

One thing that really helped me in my first year of teaching was to observe other teacher's classes. I would ask experienced colleagues if I could sit at the back of the class and watch them teach, and it really helped me pick up lots of insights into how to manage a classroom effectively. Each teacher had their own style that was reflective of their personality, so it was great to see how everyone handled the classroom in their own way. I suggest watching other teachers, either in the classroom or online, and taking advantage of their experience by incorporating their structure, games/activities, management, etc., into your own teaching. It really helps!

Be gentle with yourself. You have to play the long game. Be mindful of your successes and struggles. Goal setting should be formed with a better you in mind. Your goals should be prioritized and patient. Remember that schools will try to train you according to their needs, not yours.

Na minha experiência o sucesso está ligado à dedicação. Então é muito importante estar antenado com todas as oportunidades que a instituição onde estuda oferece. Participar ativamente das aulas e tirar dúvidas com os professores e colegas, não tenha vergonha de perguntar, sua dúvida pode ser a de outros colegas!!

1.- Ser responsable con las actividades académicas. 2.- No faltar el respeto a los alumnos. 3.- Preparar con anticipación todo el material de apoyo para el dictado de las clases. 4.- Ser puntual en el horario de las actividades de clase. 5.- No creerse superior a los alumnos, por el simple hecho de ser el profesor. 6.- Atender las dudas de los alumnos, sin dar respuestas por dar una respuesta. 7.- Poner toda la vocación y la voluntad en el dictado de las clases

Find a great mentor. Then sit in their classes and watch. Take note of their tone, pace, how they include all students, how they deal with disruptions or disrespect.

As a dentist, don't do everything alone. Ask for advice and feedback from mentors, colleagues, and patients. Learn from others, connect with fellow dentists, and be open to new ideas. Don't be afraid to seek help when needed.

Comme dans tout autre domaine, il est important de profiter de l'expérience de nos collègues plus expérimentés. Ils ont tous débuté un jour et ont eu de bonnes ou de mauvaises expériences lors de leurs premières années d'enseignement. Échanger avec ces collègues, notamment ceux qui enseignent une matière proche de la vôtre, vous permettra d'essayer plus rapidement ce qui a bien marché pour eux ou d'éviter d'expérimenter les erreurs qu'ils ont commises. Tout n'est évidemment pas à reproduire tel quel mais l'expérience de nos collègues est inestimable et gratuite !

Plan to avoid stress. Use a calendar or digital tool prepare lessons in advance and have backups. Prioritize important tasks, delegate non-essentials and learn to say no for a balanced work-life.

O planejamento é a ferramenta mais importante para a docência, ele vai ajudar a definor muito bem o programa a ser ministrado, o conteúdo e o formatondas aulas. O planejamento deve sernaplucado no estudo do conteúdo e da elaboração de slides, lista de exercícios, etc. Ele vai dar previsibilidade das suas ações ao longo do tempo. A docência é uma atividade que se torna uma missão na vida dos professores e quando planejada e priorizada devidamente todos os benefícios daquela disciplina ou curso são entregues aos alunos.

Succeeding in my first year of teaching involved careful planning and a focus on students' learning abilities. I mainly prioritized (and still do) understanding and addressed the diverse learning needs of my students to help them achieve their full potential. Researching online resources and observing experienced teachers while I was working as their assistant were invaluable in my development as a teacher. These strategies provided me with practical insights and effective teaching techniques that have greatly contributed to my success in the classroom.

En 1/ tenir ses plannings ses horaires En 2/ contrôler : avec différents outils : les feed-back du groupe, les évaluations… l’atteinte de l’objectif arrive en dernier critère ( les évaluations ouvertes permettant de remonter jusqu’aux causes du cours lui même, et les échelles de certitudes dans les évaluations aident … ). Il faut rester flexible. Chaque problème aura peut-être une ou des causes différentes. En 3/ identifier : trouver seul ou chercher en groupe les causes ( la cause est souvent déjà 2 étapes avant l’arrivée du problème) En 4/ remédier en impliquant le groupe sur la dead Line (non pas de l’examen mais de la compétence visée)

One thing a first year educator can do to engage students is be the “lead learner”. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes in front of students and present them as learning opportunities. This creates a safe environment for students to take academic risks without the pressure of getting it right all the time.

Engager c’est utiliser tous les canaux de communication de l’information. Atteindre la cible c’est viser l’attention et la compréhension de l’élève. Engager c’est créer de la surprise ou une émotion. Apprendre passe par nos émotions.

The ancient scriptures say that we do not see the world as it is, but as we are. This shows us that each person has a way of interpreting it. From Echeverría's ontology of language, it is also known that "as we are, we act, but as we act, we are." This means that the way of interpreting the world can change, depending on our actions. We take charge in order to be better. These principles mark the paths of teachers to excellence. We focus on being better and thus we will be better teachers; it is a golden cycle. I remember my first year; If I had focused only on myself, on what I thought the audience needed, I would not have evolved; instead, I focused on the students and on the way of learning together. That would make a difference.

It is important to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes, it can be surprising to realize that what you learned in school may not always apply in the real world as it constantly changes. Therefore, it is crucial to keep learning and adapting to make the most of your knowledge and skills. As a teacher, it is especially important to continue learning and growing.

1. La mejor forma de ser un profesor es nunca de ser estudiante. Suena a cliché, pero a veces la posición de poder y tener que ser la autoridad nos nubla la visión a todos. 2. Es clave leer mucho sobre procesos de aprendizaje y saber a qué escuela filosófica uno se alinea, eso ayudará a tomar mejores decisiones. Para mí lo mejor fue Enseñanza para la Comprensión. Hay mil libros sobre el asunto. 3. Llevar un diario de lo que sale bien y lo que no sale tan bien, eso no sólo ayuda a mejorar futuras experiencias sino que también ayuda a que uno vea cómo ha mejorado (y en unos años será una fuente maravillosa de recuerdos) 4. Por último, sé amable contigo mismo.

Regular reflection is a fundamental part of my teaching routine. After each lesson, I take a moment to think about what went well and what could be better. This helps me identify areas for improvement and refine my teaching methods. Embracing feedback from students and colleagues is crucial in this process. I believe that continuous improvement is the key to effective teaching. By constantly reflecting on my practices, I ensure that I stay adaptable and responsive to the evolving needs of my students, creating a more enriching and effective learning experience for everyone involved.

Compromiso y responsabilidad siempre, trabajar duro y constante, apoyarte en los que tienen más experiencia. Creer en lo que estás enseñando y por sobre todo ver la proyección a futuro que pueden tener tus estudiantes luego del proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje.

Doing self-development helps you to be more confident, informed. I often hear about quality international schools and their successful experiences. In my work I always make updates.

Lose your ego! Early in my career I thought I knew it all. I very quickly realised this was not only a disservice to students (and peers) but it was gilding me back too. Be humble and listen🙂 I'd learn more, listen more and engage on an entirely new level with students. Robust discussion and conflicting views are healthy so long as we're both open and accepting.

There is so much more to consider. This is what my focus is - supporting new teachers. A great mentor is a perfect start, but you need to consider your own well-being also. Too many are paddling madly under water but looking calm(ish) on top. Not comparing yourself to experienced teachers of 15+ years is a great start. Focus on yourself and your relationships with students as a start, the content knowledge comes naturally with time.

One thing that I believe can contribute heavily to success in your first year of teaching (definitely in the secondary classroom, potentially also in the senior Primary level) is well structured classroom management. Enforcing and reinforcing procedures for beginning and ending classes as well as a clear plan for managing undesirable behaviour in the classroom (ideally supported but the school’s management policy) is essential for ensuring success in the first year. So many new teachers plan their lesson content very carefully but neglect to consider and plan for student management concerns, which is such a significant part of the classroom environment.

Set realistic goals that are attainable and measurable. Regularly seek feedback from colleagues and mentors to refine your teaching methods. Prioritize planning and organization to manage your workload effectively. Engage students by connecting lessons to their interests and encouraging interactive learning. Reflect on your experiences regularly to identify areas for improvement and celebrate successes.

If intent is good then any person can be a good teacher. Intent to work hard, intent to be a good human being, intent to help students, intent to deliver good lessons. A person with good intent can do anything.
