What are the most important resources for career development in Working with Physicians?

This is a great way to learn, by asking questions and seeking feedback by someone who has been there in the organization and in the same area of practice. However, you also want to be specific about the relationship instead of just saying "will you mentor me" and then have no clue how to proceed. Formulate questions you can ask them that you struggle with to get their feedback. Have set and short meeting times where you can walk through situations and see how they would handle them. And ask their preferred method of communication (is text okay? Is a phone call better)? You will get more out of the relationship this way.

They are all sound in their clinical (technical) skills, although there can be exceptions. However, more than 80% of them need to develop their non-technical soft skills. Empathy, Listening skills, Communication skills, punctuality come top of the list. In some cases they must understand they should command respect of the society and money is not everything.

I cant agree w this more. Each step of my journey has been paved by amazing mentors and coaches who have sowed into my life and encouraged me every step of the way. I remain forever grateful. It also taught me to do the same. Paying it forward also teaches others to embrace others who have the same desire for personal /professional growth.

Career development in working with physicians relies on industry-specific education, continuous learning through medical journals and conferences, mentorship from seasoned professionals, and networking within healthcare circles. Utilize online platforms, professional associations, and leadership training to enhance communication skills, stay updated on medical advancements, and navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare.

I often find that many physicians have not networked well outside of their own practice or hospital specialty. Networking is a crucial skill for being successful in the career journey, especially for non-clinical careers. Teaching physicians how to network and why it is important is a skill I often work on with clients.

Teaching physicians how to give and receive proper feedback is key to one's professional growth. Honest self-assessment can be a crucial part of career development.

Networks like the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) were instrumental in my healthcare career. I found attending in-person meetings, whether hosted by our malpractice company or employment attorneys, were great opportunities to connect with others also working with physicians, and experiencing the same challenges I was. They were great places for me to build networks with others I could lean on for support.

The concept of wellness extends to many different areas. As a financial advisor to medical professionals and physicians I can say that having a financial gameplan has an immense effect on overal wellness. That plan doesnt have to correlate with 'growth in the stock market' or anything. But the benefit of a financial plan is giving peace of mind to know that ones finances are being managed by a professional. Take that weight off your shoulder, and it frees up mental bandwidth to shift to other areas of development and wellness. All in my opinion of course :)

Burnout is a large obstacle to physician wellness. Teaching physicians best practices to maintain their wellness and prevent burnout is key.
