As a Clinical Applications Analyst, I acknowledge the challenges of building, utilizing, adapting, and maintaining EHR/EMRs, they are complex systems. Despite their intricacies, EHRs enhance healthcare efficiency by reducing test duplication, minimizing treatment delays, and empowering patients to make informed decisions. I've worked with Epic and Cerner extensively. I have ~10 epic certifications, This is a very generic article that is for people outside the industry. EHR's are large Enterprise pieces of software which run an organization. Identifying how much you'll customize is critical as you have to maintain and support every customization. Most people who work on it aren't coders but instead people to modify widgets in the software, they get paid about the same as a programmer but have a very different background and skillset which can be surprising to those outside the industry.

Healthcare is bad at this, most of our data collection is terrible and incredibly dirty. We do it but be aware that data mining is very different in healthcare than in some data centric organizations.

A.I. will change every aspect of health care delivery, organization and financing. The low hanging fruit for A.I. in health care is “organization” because the stakes are very much lower AND arrangements to provide care lend themselves to machine learning and A.I. generated solutions. From my perspective - as a healthcare technology policy leader here in D.C. - it will be relatively easy for A.I. to replace many of the functions of organizations - including trade associations. I have been a part of several health trade groups - and do a basic level - which is serve as a convener is EASILY replicated at much less cost using A.I. Not only that - but the risks are low

These aren't terribly useful, we keep trying to make them incredibly useful in the industry but at the end of the day we don't have a trust problem we have other problems such as interoperability.
