I find that we all have talked a lot about security without touching upon the larger aspect of Enterprise Data Governance of which Security is a mere aspect of. How data is created, processed and stored and to have that entire lineage recorded, labelled and classified is where we should begin our conversations. The tech aspect of Data Security is easy. We need to solve the People and Process of it first and foremost.

Identifying and evaluating security risks is a continuous effort that needs top prioritization when there are security breaches. Data loss prevention tools identify highly sensitive information with regular pattern matching methods. However there are 2 key flaws. It misses information with a high false positive rate and it fails to correlate the security of the data across multiple systems and applications. Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) is a new concept that ties together the risk sensitivity and security controls of a company’s data into one holistic approach to proactively monitor and measure the risk level. This requires a defensive and offensive approach to protecting and taking action against all security risks.

Data security is fundamental for our organization. It encompasses both internal and external data protection. Internally, it means robust user access controls, encryption, and regular data backups to safeguard against accidental breaches. Externally, it includes firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and security protocols to protect against external threats. Systems and software that don't follow best practises for data security and privacy run the danger of security incidents and data breaches, which could lead to legal action. Data security is based on three foundational principles — confidentiality, integrity, and availability — which are known as the “CIA triad.”.💯
