What are some common decision-making mistakes that people make in their careers?

1. Making a drastic decision thinking it will solve the entire problem, but it only solves the symptom and they find that problem reappear. 2. Focusing on the extrinsic goals such as promotions, pay rises VS what actually drives them intrinsically. 3. Making decisions based on loyalty bias and not what the work requires of them. 4. Thinking they're owed that promotion or pay rise but when you look at exactly what they've done through the year, they've done exactly what their current role requires of them, and haven't done what's needed to prove they are at the title they wanted to get promoted to.

Some of the mistakes people do take in decisions making towards their career is not knowing what they really want and not knowing the level of their capabilities or capacity through finding their vision and ambition towards their goals and aims in life

Statistics show that women still have lower levels of confidence and commitment to making decisions, esp when the decision is amidst a majority of their male peers. Women leaders show more empathy and utilize more holistic thought and compassion than men, and this is a differentiator when making and sharing decisions. Women, while imposter syndrome/phenomenon is real, rely on your talent and knowledge to lead you to the decision. Avoid leading your decision-sharing w/ 'I'm sorry, but...' or introducing your decision w/ any disclaimer or qualifier. That only minimizes your contribution and cuts yourself at your knees. Your decisions are from your experience and talent. Share w that confidence.

Remember that there are both UNCONCSIOUS and CONSCIOUS biases. Proactively acknowledge your conscious biases like "I went to Indiana Univ, so I know I'm biased w this candidate, because... GO HOOSIERS!" - this does two things: models your ability to admit and bring fwd your bias AND sets a platform for you to ask your peers to hold you accountable for mitigating that bias as decisions are made. Then for unconscious biases, research shows that taking bias training, even just-in-time education within 7-14 days before you have to make a critical decision, helps to remind your brain of your biases and can curb how unconscious biases could eventually impact the decision
