One thing I've learned as a research assistant especially as in the area of collections of data in the community where I belong is that good communication skills are very essential . Well, I'm saying this because our research work was directed to a community of people where developmental is at its neonatal stage. Our research topic was on, the use of contraceptives and the need for Artificial reproductive technology.. Oh my, it was painstaking especially with the issues of language barrier. I learnt later on the need to get a middle person who could serve as the interpreter. Although it was a success, the language barrier cost us quite a lot

I can boldly say, it is very essential to tailor your message to specific research positions. I Remembered vividly how I wanted to start research on the woman's health and later came to realise that they are actually much to do with this and I later how to mirror it down to public awareness of the rise of breast cancer in the community which i reside. This gave me a stepping stone to chisel out a lot of unnecessary factors..

Want to know how it's started? Lolz.. Had a senior colleague in school then in the medical training who is currently a Medical Doctor now. He started his research project for the end of the mbbs program and running out of numbers of assistants, he reached out to me. At first, I was naive about going because it was my first time ever to do so. After long thoughts, I summoned courage and boom, I was already in the community. That, I believe gave me the push to begin a little work on the rise of breast cancer in the community, the level of awareness and intervention by the government in meeting or rendering health services to those affected. I can't quickly forget how I lost my old time friend to breast cancer.

Well, as regards confidence, I don't think I would want to tell anyone to underestimate this. Remembering how a colleague and I started a research on analyzing antimalarial herbs and seeing how we could extract the several phytochemicals responsible for their antimalarial actions. We couldn't get to go further because it was quite cost effective and discouragement came by the hands of our teachers which I believe was key to our fall. So I just encourage anyone pushing to keep it up with the vision....
