What is your experience with a successful BI project?

Implantar inteligência de dados em uma empresa envolve: 1. Definir objetivos claros. 2. Avaliar recursos disponíveis. 3. Coletar e organizar dados relevantes. 4. Escolher ferramentas apropriadas. 5. Treinar a equipe. 6. Implementar governança de dados. 7. Analisar resultados e tomar decisões. 8. Melhorar continuamente.

Sempre, entender o problema é fundamental! Vou comentar de um projeto que fiz para atender uma situação pessoal que acabou contribuindo para outras pessoas e empresas. Uma pessoa bem próxima a mim, que trabalha no ramo de educação, tinha uma dificuldade grande em encontrar informações sobre escolas do Brasil como um todo, sempre pesquisava no google e ficava minerando informações... eu vendo essa situação, procurei entender a necessidade (que basicamente era ter informações como: número de alunos, região, status da escola (ativa, fechada), se é particular, estado, cidade e etc)... Based on my recent projects using BI analytic software, I have come to a realisation that clear goals, stakeholder alignment, robust data governance and appealing visuals are essential to have successful projects. There is also a need for effective communication and continuous feedback throughout the process adapting to evolving business needs and ensuring success.

Para implementar uma solução de BI, deve-se seguir os seguintes passos: - Identificação e entendimento claro do problema - Avaliar o que se pode fazer com os recursos disponiveis - Tomar decisões - Entregar - Coletar feedback - Ajustar

I love tools but you cant really know what tools are appropriate except you have a good understanding of how they work and what they are capable of. And let's not forget that these tools change over time so keeping up with that is vital. By tools I mean not just the BI tools but also the entities they operate on because how they integrate with different data platforms differs. Other considerations are the volume, velocity and type of data to be used for analysis as these are key considerations for selecting the right tool for the job. An often overlooked consideration is data literacy. We've all heard it, "Can I just get this in Excel?" I love Excel but it cant do everything. Users need to be comfortable exploring other tools too.

Com base no entendimento do problema (que mencionei acima) fui pesquisar fontes de dados e encontrei estas informações no INEP (responsável por censo escolar) e no censo escolar, tinha todas as informações necessárias para atender a necessidade. Baixei essa fonte de dados (com informações de todas as escolas do brasil, seja pública, federal ou particular), modelei estes dados e criei uma interface para consulta usando Power BI. A interface, tive o cuidado de deixar algo parecido com o google, pois a pessoa já era acostumada a pesquisar no google... #pensemnisso

Depois de feito os passos comentados acima, publiquei (online e aberto), pois eram dados públicos. A pessoa testou e começou a utilizar somente essa fonte de pesquisa... foram feitas algumas melhorias com bases em feedbacks da pessoa usuária e o melhor, de outras pessoas que também foram impactadas com essa ferramenta! Hoje, essa ferramenta continua sendo utilizada, já serviu como base para empresas criarem seus próprios visuais mais voltado ao negócio! Esse considero um projeto de BI, que fiz para ajudar em uma situação específica e acabou ajudando muitas pessoas e empresas! É um projeto pequeno, é sim! Mas teve impacto grande! Como comentei, depois da entrega, recebi feedbacks para adição de novas funcionalidades e além disso, fui refinando a forma que fiz... melhorando o modelo de dados, melhorando a visualização e navegabilidade, melhorando o nível de detalhes e etc!

Aqui vou reforçar algo que sempre comento que são as habilidades comportamentais... esse projeto começou depois que eu via a pessoa constantemente fazendo um trabalho repetitivo e observando, via que aquilo não era prático e ágil! Tomei a iniciativa de perguntar, entender a necessidade e de ajudar a otimizar este tempo de pesquisa! Resumindo, aqui a habilidade maior foi a Empatia!

Successful BI project in my opinion: - should Suffice the objective or the project goal and the business need - should meet the expectations of stakeholders - should be implemented within the defined time frame - the cost should be within the budget - should pave way for more BI projects within the organisation

Um projeto bem sucedido é aquele que reduz recurso transacional para análise de dados, boa integração com outras plataformas, facilidade de compartilhamento, sustentabilidade e manutenção do modelo de dados.

Organizations often wait until the last stage of BI project development to consult with their audiences. However, I find its most effective, to think about your audience first as they are ultimately your users. This kind of bottom-up approach allows the project manager, as they collect data about project requirements, to keep in mind the decision-makers who will be using the dashboard regularly for their daily/weekly operations, and therefore to develop a solution that responds well to their needs.
