It helps me see what I've got, where I may be missing requirements, and then it helps me to keep track of what has been built and what has not. There are other models that help as well; process flows is one of my go-tos. Of course, this doesn't necessarily work for non-functional requirements, but that list by itself is typically smaller than the functional ones.
