Celebrating smaller success will maintain the team's motivation towards achieving long term objectives.

Aligning your long term goals with a larger company objective. 2. Building outlook by recognizing the milestones of ongoing projects. 3. Discussing some examples of long term research with significant breakthroughs. For the first, I taught my team how multi year data can reveal a project's unique key points creating a competitive advantage. By shifting focus to lasting impact, patience is cultivated, as a vision of a bigger story is aligned with and new, lasting contributions are encouraged.

Siempre me ha fascinado el experimento de la gominola "marshmallow" de la Universidad de Stanford, por el cual, algunos sujetos prefieren una recompensa inmediata de poco importe antes que otra más lejana en el tiempo, pero muy valiosa. Desde entonces, en las entrevistas de trabajo intento detectar un patrón de comportamiento u otro en las personas candidatas (no siempre lo consigo). Por centrar la respuesta, considero que a la hora de crear equipos de I+D+i, es muy imporante contar con personas que hayan obtenido un doctorado universitario, porque son mucho más resilientes y están acostumbradas a diferir el éxito a un plazo de cuatro o más años. Por ello, en el entorno industrial se muestran más pacientes ante los logros instantáneos.

Es un tema muy complejo. El problema radica en la carrera académica y la estabilidad laboral. Los aspectos más relevantes de la investigación, como desarrollar artículos de calidad y de gran impacto, así como acumular citas, son procesos lentos que entran en conflicto con la necesidad de conseguir una acreditación que permita obtener un puesto estable. Por ello, el corto plazo se impone.
