I would have a portfolio of some of the major projects you have worked on and go over them in the interview using all the lean terminology. Showcase the lean tools you used to accomplish the project and the savings/outcome that you achieved.

From experience, an interview panel consists of more than the subject matter expert (sme). More often than not, an HR personnel is involved. The important question to answer is: " What value is the Interviewee bringing on board if recruited?" As a result, it is not enough to be able to use and explain the Lean manufacturing vocabularies, making practical application will be more worthwhile. Have you been involved in a waste reduction project or are you aware of one? Point out how lean manufacturing principle was applied and the From-To movement achieved. Its beneficial to express value addition in monetary terms.

Share a real-life example of when you were in the trenches and solved systemic problem, with concrete results in productivity, cost reduction, safety, or quality. Provide the story of when you implemented a new ERP or Manufacturing software system. Give a compelling narrative of your tactics and change management skills to bring the rest of your team on board.

Relate examples that you have employed from your own experiences. As an interviewer, I prefer hearing what the candidate has accomplished and how or what their role was in that accomplishment. Lean is no different. Stay simple and use the elevator speech technique. What did you do. What was the result. How did you get it done. What role in the implementation team did you play.

You can start with the example. Share the project you have worked on and navigate how you did it. As we wanted to improve the productivity in engine assembly area, a team was divided in groups for gemba walk. As I walked through the area, I observed poor 5S, excess inventory, Quality rejected material on line side which lead to unnecessary movement of operator. There were no visual displays to parts rejected. With these observation, I noted down the possible improvements.

Talk their talk. Use Lean lingo, share real examples of how you’ve cut waste and boosted efficiency, and tie everything back to the bottom line. Show you get their world and how you’ve driven results.

Lean is about simplicity, If you're over complicating your responses, you're not embodying what you're trying to convey. I don't buy into the over use of terms. If you can't explain them in simple words then you will have difficulty getting them into real world practice

To impress in an interview you can talk about a project that you have worked on where you identified wastes and reduced it to improve productivity. It is important to not only mention Lean terms but to demonstrate your understanding of them through practical examples.

Yes, there some terminology if we will run lean. The basic are 5S, Kanban, Muda, Genba, Monozukuri, Mieruka. 5S is consist of steps how only keep and manage things only what we need at present time, and keep it clean as a normal condition sustainably. Its the easiest why for manufacturer to identify if any abnormalities. Kanban is tool for pull system, in order to only make product as what the need. Muda is everting have no value, there are 7 mudas there. Genba is the site where the process is taking place, in there most important data source exists. Mieruka, for Japanese concept, visualize everything will make everyone easier to understand and control, so every important information and standardization must to show at genba

Show your achievements Share how you implemented the lean methodology among a resisting team. How did you earn their trust and how did you breach for lean application among them. Share how they embraced it as a daily activity. Share how you convinced the resisting leader to become your breacher in your absence to maintain a lasting good work environment that improves itself. Focus on what was before and what happens after and make the effect clear by numbers.

In every company I work for, the first thing to do is to assess current knowledge of Lean techniques, and this can be done with a simple questionnaire. After that, address the items that represent the 80/20. Train the team, apply the tools and observe which one best fits the procedure being worked on. There is an appropriate tool for each process.

One of approach could be a) Have clarity on basic tools of Lean manufacturing i. e.5S,Kaizen,PDCA,Root,RCA,5Whys etc b) Also to have understanding how Lean manufacturing will lead to Operational Excellence c) One or two real case studies will help candidate to show her / his capabilities of implementation of Lean manufacturing tool successfully d) Importance team involvement in implementation of Lean project.These are few points may help in addition to candidates own experience & view.

It is extremely important to conduct a litmus test of the "know-how" of lean techniques and methodologies vs. the ability to use practices to solve actual problems. "Doing Lean" without solving an actual problem is considered one of the Deadly Wastes (unused creativity). The actual superpower of a good Lean candidate is the ability to solve any problem with good tool use, change management and effective communications.

We need to understand that Kaizen or continuous improvement is a journey and not a destination. It means it is never ending process. The target that we set should be according to SMART principal. The end purpose of kaizen is actually to build a culture of kaizen among pool of workers instead of depending on small group to conduct kaizen across the entire company. When conduct properly kaizen is the most powerful lean tools that allow company to sustain in the challenging environment

I am disappointed in this article from the perspective that the interviewee needs to prove themselves (true), but the interviewer, as the representative of the company, doesn’t need to do the same. As the interviewer, be sure to ask the questions that help clarify that your Lean efforts will include management support and that employees will have the proper level of empowerment to make projects successful. Many places are simply too immature from a Lean Cultural standpoint and do not have the upper management support for you to be successful in the long term.

In your reply ,Begin with briefly outlining a significant challenge, like resistance to change or resource constraints. Detail your approach, including deep root cause analysis and targeted solution development. Highlight your proactive actions, such as persuasive communication, comprehensive training, and agile implementation. Showcase impactful outcomes with concrete metrics, like a notable increase in efficiency or significant cost reductions. Concluded by reflecting on key lessons learned, underscoring how this experience refined your approach.
