there are many use cases of forecasting model on supply change management to predict, the demand, pitfalls, manpower management, and many others. having said that, there are few alarms that we need to stay focused on. the model is highly depending on data,as we know, so if the data has high bias or variance it will impact the overall performance, hence subject matter expertise is needed. other big challenge is overfitting, if you are building a forecasting model and you are into seasonal business, if you are not taken more than 3-5 years of data, the changes are you will end up with a overfitted model. one last item is human intervention, even if you have high confidence value but get this validated with internal team.

Things like reliability, flexibility, personal rapport plays an important role in selecting a supplier and it is not something transactional. For other analytics, one need not apply ML. There can be some use case everywhere but IMHO I doubt if we need ML for this.
