we encountered a cost issue with an enterprise application deployed across numerous Azure virtual machines, each boasting higher configurations for rigorous performance testing. We noticed a recurring problem: the team frequently neglected to stop these servers after completing their tests, resulting in inflated daily costs. To address this, we implemented an auto-shutdown mechanism for all virtual machines at 9 pm as a precautionary measure. Subsequently, to optimize costs further, we devised an automation strategy. This involved the creation of a job scheduled to run every 30 minutes, systematically reducing the size of the stopped virtual machines and transitioning their disks from SSD to HDD, thereby achieving significant cost savings.
