You’re creating a marketing video. How can you make sure it’s hosted on the best platform?

Before even ideating & writing your video, you should first identify the core goals & outcomes you want to achieve with your video. Is it to get people talking about your brand or product? Do you want people to be educated on certain features, updates, etc. etc etc etc From there, identify your audience, where they spend their time, and what platforms make the most sense to reach them with your goals in mind. Those platforms may change depending on your goals, your audience, your budget, and the type of video content you're able to produce. Once your team has identified all that -- then you can make the video, working to tailor it specifically for the platforms being leveraged. Not all content is meant for all platforms.

Just like anything in marketing before you begin promotion you need to have a proper strategy or plan in place in order to see any form of success from it and In terms of video marketing this lets you have a clear understanding of the platform to use in order to promote your video materials

I work in the multifamily industry. I am redefining the 2024 "human voice" moments in our CX away from sales language and embracing the natural roles we play when we connect with our customers. We have four essential human functions in our connection with our renter: Educator, Influencer, Advocate, and Facilitator. We are developing video content to show ourselves on review sites and social media in each human connection role. Ensure an intuitive user experience for video management. Prioritize high-quality playback and SEO optimization. Integrate with your existing marketing tools for efficiency. Emphasize security and compliance with privacy standards. Choose scalable pricing plans that fit your budget. Seek platforms with responsive customer support. Enable easy social sharing and embedding options

Always simplify things in your mind to come to the right approach and ask the basic questions that ‘why’ do you need a video. Then once the why is answered we should know for ‘whom’ are we making the video. Learn to understand the audience with simple human touch then the ‘what’, will be answered automatically as you would know by now that what content would your audience like and accept. Then ‘where’ does this audience spend more time. How can the content that we make can be in their sight? We in the modern world has overcomplicated the concept of marketing. With basic human traits like empathy and compassion we can know our customers or audience well; and when we know someone well,we will give our best to fulfill their requirements.

To create a captivating video, you need to dive deep into audience research: Who are they? Age, demographics, interests, and even their online quirks matter. Are they Gen Z glued to TikTok, or working professionals on LinkedIn? Where are they? Do they devour content on YouTube or binge-watch on Netflix? Knowing their digital haunts helps you choose the right platform to reach them. How do they consume content? Do they prefer quick, informative snippets or immersive narrative journeys? Understanding their viewing habits ensures your video hits the right tempo and tone.

Knowing your target audience is crucial. YouTube dominates with general audiences, while Vimeo caters to creative professionals. LinkedIn might be ideal for B2B content. If your audience is tech-savvy, you might consider self-hosted options with advanced features.

Start with Video Purpose... Is important to be clear about the video objective, as could be shifting attribute perception or a consumer habit, reinforce brand awareness, consumers to learn more... or drive conversion. The goal may drive the platform or tactics in which video will perform best, keeping in mind where are consumers looking for that content or executing that action. Ensure Call to Action is clear. Differentiate between KPIs (1-3) and other performance/optimization variables. This will drive focus and effectiveness for advertiser and agency partners

As usual, the best platform is the one your targeted consumers are on, do your due diligence, build it for the audience, boost your Taylor made storytelling whilst expressing the brand DNA for this particular context

Understanding your audiences habits is a great way to improve your likelihood of selecting the right platform. When do they tend to consume video content? How do they like to consume the content? How much time do they spend doing it? Understanding their behaviours and habits will help to identify what environment and state of mind they are in when searching / watching, and gives a better indication of the devices and platforms they will have access to.

From my experience, one of the most common mistakes in marketing is creating content first and then choosing a platform. This approach is backward. The key is to start with your consumers, identifying where they are most active. Each platform, be it Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or others, has unique guidelines and content styles that resonate best with its audience. Therefore, we must tailor our content to fit the nuances of each platform, ensuring it aligns with user expectations and behaviors on that specific medium.

Secondly, look for a platform that lets you optimize titles, descriptions, tags, and even closed captions for keywords relevant to your audience. Something like a Vimeo would be great for High-quality video hosting. Youtube and Insta have become hubs of content consumption, while they offer a massy audience, they have high competition and cluttered interface

As you spend more time advertising on different platforms, you'll get a better understanding of how they perform given the audience sizes you're looking to target with your video content. For example, YouTube's CPM on average is a few bucks and this increases in December then tends to see a sizable decrease in January after the holiday season. On average, TikTok is more expensive - traditionally by 2-3x. But this will vary if you're targeting a wider audience, if your campaigns are structured around different optimizations and more. Understanding what your goals are will help you determine what you're willing to pay. Longer video content? Great. You may be willing to pay a higher CPM for more view-throughs. Shorter? That may change...

Consider budget before costs. This way you build to scope not overly expensive and grand plans. I saw today that you could start a podcast for £50. Most would try to start at £50… 10X vs where you may need to start. Think big with strategy and small with budget!

Video creation is possible through a 2MP camera phone, and even with a 10K dollar DSLR. However, costing of the video should be appropriate defined in the budgets allocated. A video cost can usually be broken into - - Camera/equipment cost (see if it is one time effort or multiple and audience watching it for quality purposes) and take a decision on the equipment accordingly - Elements of the video eg. characters, shooting place and their expense eg. scenic natural locations may have zero cost to shoot, but logistics to reach there may be higher - What platform the video shall play on - Youtube, Instagram, Television etc. - Duration of the video - Compare your ROI with the direct costs involved Do not forget indirect costs involved.

For increasing my video reach and engagement there are an important factors to be considered: 1. Define the targeted audience. 2.Research the platform demographics. 3.Consider video format and length. 4.Budget and cost effectiveness. 5. Feedback and engagement features. 5. Assess SEO and visibility options.

Videos can give you a great edge because you can show way more of your product or company. Try to write down the right goals for your video. Normally it's more focused on brand awareness. Don't compare them with search campaigns for example that are way more transactional.

🎬Currently, there’s a slight obsession with creating video content. Yes, it can be a perfect fit to help you achieve many marketing goals. But I think the starting point is to ask yourself whether other formats can deliver same results at a lower cost and more flexible timeline. That’s at least my experience. (Still a big fan of videos though! 😇)
