Here's two tips: First, make sure that your resume fits the jobs that you are applying for, I know it is a tedious process but it is a necessary one. Do not leave it for the name of your degree to showcase what you have done without being explicit about what you have done. Second, have it reviewed by someone in your career center, many alumni can still use the services as well. Another thing that I would do is factor in some self care, the process will get discouraging so you must have some way to stay positive. I recommend, hanging out with friends is good but my personal favorite, is going to get ice cream! Nothing beats an ice cream break so you can breathe and refocus.

You’d be surprised how many don’t do these: Send a thank you note in email the same day—reiterate you want the job! Make a “leave behind impression” - such as I’ll send you that article on transportation supply chains on LinkedIn if that’s ok. Or “let me intro you to that contact who can help with y” or “I’d love to send you a few top of mind ideas for how I could help in first 30 days”. Post content on LinkedIn and or any other network your prospect company/boss is on—show you’re a learner and a sharer. Few things say top of industry when the field is crowded better than this!

You need to network out side your field, a truly diverse network will give you a lifetime supply of people available for you to ask and answer questions or give a referral to a great plumber. and email with a link to an article you KNOW they will read is a good way. Going to hear speakers on various topics of personal and professional interest is a great tool. Sit near the front, not on the aisle. Introduce yourself to the people on either side and then introduce them to each other. Collect contact info, most of which is useless, until one of them is the opposite of useless. Reach out, keep track of to whom and when and about what.
