Most of the answers ive read are from a negative perspective (ie unexpected shifts are away from our desired strategic point) but can also occur from having a seriously great product innovation and under preparing for the consumer demand. Both are equally telling that at least two functions are not connected and/or not working well together (i) Your ops teams need to be more integrated into your sales teams - its likely your sales folks have been calling out the consumer behaviour for weeks (months) yet nothing is happening inside the company (ii) Your public affairs team need more cohesive discussion with your product teams, product teams will know the product is great and Public affairs will know how the market is reacting
