One of the methods I host workshops for is called "random object creativity", which is a very simple technique that forces you to think in new ways. Use of outside influences in creative problem solving is highly effective and reduces the tendency of any individual to fixate on the first reasonable creative solution they think of for a problem. By introducing a level of creative chaos or randomness early on in ideation, we can learn to have a broader set of raw material to then refine from. It's then useful to work in small groups, with sequentially increasing size, to refine the ideas whilst using them for their movement value. An idea does not have to be good or bad in the early stages - its useful for where it takes you!

Authenticity is not a Human trait. Period. That being said, we learn from our environment (physical or artificial), we get inspired from our environment, i.e. our Inputs from our Sensory Organs. Those inputs creates new memories, experiences, skills, and knowledge-sets. When I hear the phrase, "Seek inspiration", it simply means that inspiration is everywhere. Experience something different from the routine, and you may find a new perspective. Example, you are a Digital marketer, going out with a friend can help gain a new insight and may lead to innovation. And vice versa, someone working on Environmental issues, if they meet a Virtual reality designer, they may find a new perspective, help innovate.

I like to use the 'curveball method'. Write or curate a few numbered lists of 1-6 random things, for example: 1: an iguana 2: a bike 3: a trampoline 4: the President 5: a Grade 1 student 6: public speaking Then roll a dice (three times) to ask yourself the question: how would "number 2" better solve this problem? G Do this exercise three times, giving yourself 3 minutes to generate ideas. Connecting things that are not typically put together, disassociates your typical brain patterns that generate ideation, sparking more creativity and innovative ideas.

In my experience, practicing being present as much as I can has a positive impact on your creativity levels. Writing first thing in the morning aka Morning Pages is one thing that frees up space on my mind that I can use to find creative solutions which otherwise would stay filled with useless mental chatter. Humor is an under-appreciated element in the creative process, and in the worst case even labeled as "unprofessional". But it is such a powerful tool. Humor ignites the playful part of your brain and those around you. Humor allows you to explore, in a safer environment, topics that may be too delicate or too sensitive to address in a more judgemental environment. Humor dissolves tensions, supplies energy and lubricates collaboration.

Exercise! I know it may sound cliche but, the effect of dopamine produced during work outs, benefits creativity as well and -probably- helps to overcome obstacles in ways we might not have thought of. In general, when searching for inspiration on a specific topic, particularly if this is related to a pressing or urgent business need, it's always good to *temporarily* distract yourself with another beneficial task and have the primary matter running in the background of your mind.
