Here are words of wisdom I got from a great leader In order to be successful in any career, especially IT career, these are the three things to consider: 1) Continuous learning!! Keep learning as much as possible. Dig in. 2) Communicate!! Communicate as much as possible to the Peers, Management and everyone. Keep the communication clear and transparent. 3) Deliver! Make sure everything you promise, you deliver. You should deliver on time. Even if you are good in 1) and 2), if you don’t deliver, you will not be regarded and respected. All three come together to give you the best career you are looking for.

We need to understand the market space, understand the perspectives of the customer or user, compare product or service with various competitor to understand the organization position and have a plan to redress or address needs and use a balance scorecard to improve productivity.

All good options above, but if there is someone starting out today I would suggest this perspective... There are a ton of IT products out there already which covers each and every square inch? Square mm? Square whatever is less than mm ... It is great to have mentors but they will be skewed to one way or another for your journey ... At the end of the day keep in touch with your basics: listen to the customer (maybe there is a product, maybe there is an opportunity to develop one) and be observant ... IT solves business needs - that is the job you are signing up for, the IT strategy you deliver or work on should reflect that ... Please don't look up to your boss alone .... There is a ton of knowledge out there
