At times, I have seen most new hires struggle with the practicality of any problem. They might be good with theoretical concepts or solving problems on paper, but the real test comes when they are required to apply that knowledge to real-world situations. To assess their machinery and safety skills effectively, I begin by providing hands-on training with the equipment they will be using. I guide them through standard operating procedures (SOPs), focusing on key safety protocols such as lockout/tagout procedures, emergency shutdowns, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.

There are lots of ways you can check whether candidates are capable of not 1. Giving them task on machines 2. Check what are tha safety precautions they are taking 3. Best way is to give On job training including safety protocol.

I take a 3 step assessment approach: 1) Written assessment/Verbal walkthrough 2) Demonstration and “you try it” 3) With team lead supervision only The team lead then has the responsibility to determine with the new hire can operate solo.
