Mindfulness can help us manage stress and overwhelm in a number of ways: to find your calm, to refocus your attention, to tolerate emotional, cognitive and physical distress, and even just to take a break. Ultimately, mindfulness helps us become more aware of what is going on in our reality. Awareness helps us to accept reality as it is which increases the chance that we take effective actions. And the best thing about it is that you can do it anywhere, anytime, around anyone and for as long as you want. If you're stressed, start by just taking a moment to focus on a pleasant or calming smell, or choose another sense if you prefer (sight, sound, taste, touch). Even two minutes can make a difference.

The daily practice of mindfulness has restored order to my work and personal life. One helpful key to practice mindfulness is bite size. Only focus on that little bit of the big task that you are doing at the moment and take your eyes off the whole. Another tip that helps me is to BE in the moment, if you are at work do not be at home and if you are at home do not be at work. Give the people around you the benefit of your full attention.

Mindfulness may not be about trying to achieve a different emotional state to the present experience, even if one does succeed. We often confuse meditation with emotional juggling. The real invitation that mindfulness offers is to explore chaos within oneself, embrace the unpleasant experience, stop resisting and learn to accept it. One of the principles of mindfulness is non-action, which is not based on quick, ready-made solutions, and this makes us face our impatience and can generate more unease. But the invitation is still there. Do not try to achieve peace instead of chaos, you may discover peace in the midst of chaos!

Many times, we get overwhelmed because we perceive that we do not have enough resources. However, when we choose to focus on what we have and shift our minds from the noise and concerns around us, we find peace. We come to realize that we have more than our eyes can see. we also discover the resources that tend to get overlooked during crisis. mindfulness is indeed important to avoid or at least reduce stress.
