You’re part of an energy management team. How can you make a real difference?

Developing a culture of sustainability within the organization and ensuring that you have buy-in from key stakeholders is important. As an energy manager, you could talk in kWh and BTUs all day, but translating these metrics to tangible cost savings and other operational and building performance improvements is key. There should also be an emphasis on Measurement and Verification (M&V) of savings so that you can continually report on how the implemented energy savings measures are cutting costs and improving performance.

To make real difference, it's important to balance people, process and technology. Professionally, I'll look into multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating people, process and technology. It is not easy and you will face challenges at time of transition from reactive to proactive management practices since there are many opportunities for improvement and it can be challenging to prioritize for efficient energy management. To transform existing buildings into smart, high performance buildings requires lot of important decisions to prioritize goals. At the end, successfully implementation of energy management practices to support optimized performance of buildings will count !!! MAK
