Building trust within the community you serve is imperative for your success. My experience as a community organizer, for a nonprofit organization made me realize how important it is to win the trust and support of the people in our communities. Without establishing trust, sustainability of projects could be at risk. First of all, every community organizer has to be empathetic and respectful of the people they serve. This will make the people become comfortable with you and divulge important information that will help the progress of projects.

To make a lasting impact, deeply engage with the local community. Understand the unique cultural dynamics, history, and needs of the area you're working in. This tailored approach ensures that your initiatives are relevant and beneficial. I always say people have reasons for behaving the way they do. As a community organizer, by engaging, having dialogues with community members would afford you the opportunity to understand their perspective in order to help identify solutions to problems. In this case, it is important to frequent the community and interact to establish relationships that will make them have a better understanding of what you are introducing. Without engagement with your community members, everything will fell like an imposition.

First of all, as a community organizer, How do you measure the impact of your work? Again it comes back to engagement and dialogue with your community members. Community organizing is more of a transactional model of communication. Interact with your community members, do back and forth, seek their feedbacks and opinions. The articulation of feedbacks will help you to know whether your target was achieved or you need to restructure. It is always good to find out if projects were successful, and it can only be done through feedbacks.

Forming strategic partnerships with other organizations can amplify your impact. Look for allies who share your vision and can bring additional resources, expertise, or networks to the table. These collaborations can extend the reach of your initiatives and introduce innovative approaches to problem-solving. Identify reputable people who are willing to work and establish partnerships with them. There are always people who are respected in every community such as opinion leaders, community leaders, pastors etc. Forming strategic alliances with these key leaders would help you win the masses and also build trust within the communities. Also, partner with other organizations, and experts with similar interests to work with. I remember the organization I worked with partnered with other nonprofits, public institutions that served the same purpose to provide a wider range of services to the people we served. Never underestimate the power of strategic partnerships!
