Engaging in mentorship can be a highly rewarding experience, providing numerous opportunities for personal and professional advancement. Not to mention, a mentee can offer fresh ideas and perspectives, which can be valuable for mentors in understanding different viewpoints or discovering new approaches to problems. Additionally, the process of mentoring can highlight areas for the mentor’s own improvement.

Communication is the most frequently mentioned skill in HR job advertisements. Effective communication is essential in human resource management because the human resource specialist is the link between the business and the employee, representing both parties. You are the source of information for employees, and being able to effectively handle their questions and complaints is key to success in most HR jobs. Communicating with stakeholders, CEO, managers and employees, at different levels of power and influence, requires different language and tone. This is why the ability to communicate well with a variety of people and leave a professional and positive impression is an essential skill for HR professionals.

Being a mentor isn't just a job, it's a privilege. Not everyone has the chance to earn the trust of a mentee and play such a vital role in their growth. By guiding, motivating, and empowering new mentees, we can help them develop into mentors themselves, creating a ripple effect of positive influence.

En mi opinión, el espectro de aprendices potenciales es vasto y variado, incluyendo desde nuevos empleados y personal subalterno hasta compañeros y líderes sénior dentro de cualquier organización. La mentoría no se limita solo al ámbito interno; también se extiende a personas fuera de la organización, como estudiantes, ex alumnos y miembros de asociaciones profesionales. Lo crucial para una mentoría exitosa es encontrar a alguien que no solo tenga un interés genuino en aprender de ti, sino que también comparta metas, valores y expectativas similares. Cada mentor e mentorado são únicos, por isso a mentoria precisa ser adaptada para cada necessidade. Alguns conseguem se desenvolver em grupo, outros necessitam de uma mentoria mais individualizada. O importante é que ocorra o desenvolvimento de maneira objetiva e com progressos. Utilizar testes, feedbacks, perguntas para gerar insumos sobre o mentorado e assim conseguir traçar o caminho ideal.

I believe an effective way to mentor is first to observe employees by GEMBA WALK. Gemba walk is an activity which you go through to observe your employees during a certain task to understand how it's done and how your team is performing as well. Well of course in order not to look creepy you need to tell your employees what Gemba walk is and when you will be doing it. AAAND then, you will understand what your team needs, lacks and how to address the observed discrepancies.

This depends on your specific area of expertise within the people field. Whatever it is, there is heavy practical knowledge that you have gained which should be shared with people so that they can learn from it, make better decisions, move forward with confidence and improve on what you've already built. One important thing to share is the mistakes you have made/seen being made so that no one else repeats these. Also share what people strategies, tools and techniques have worked well for you so that people can fast track arriving at the right solution for their use case.

After you observe your team on what they lack or need to improve, you need to collaborate with L&D department and develop a training framework along with training content. The content should be relevant, consicely aligned with the objectives, timely organized and evaluated after implementation.

It depends. If your team lacks or needs improvement in time management (which is considered as a soft skill), it may not too long. It can be done in a course of a month in a weekly sessions. When it comes to hard skills, it may take longer.

Como un profesional de recursos humanos experimentado, pienso que hacer mentoring le pueden generar valor a diferentes personas, no solamente en el mundo de recursos humanos, sino en diferentes áreas de la compañía. El mentoring es el acompañamiento que se le puede hacer a una persona para que conozca sobre procesos, estructuras, culturas, o elementos específicos de algo donde tiene que aprender y desarrollarse.

La efectividad de la mentoría depende de un plan claro que considere objetivos, expectativas y límites. Es vital acordar la frecuencia, duración y formato de las sesiones, idealmente reuniéndose al menos una vez al mes. La flexibilidad para ajustar sesiones y el plan de mentoría es clave, al igual que solicitar y aplicar retroalimentación para mejorar continuamente la relación y los resultados de mentoría.

Mentoring within HR can be an invaluable way of deepening the bench of capability within a firm. Creating the right people strategy is both an art and a science, and the art is often honed through mentoring. The mentor is there to build confidence, ask questions, play devil's advocate and help prosecute those aspects of HR that aren't in the employment law guidebook, the internal process manual nor the well-crafted PowerPoint deck of insights. I have been often asked when mentoring "how would you go about this?" not because I know the answer but more to work through a process where the mentee feels they have established a POV that is considered and appropriate.

Mentoring is my guide for getting better at my job. When I was starting out, someone helped me understand ins/ outs of hiring people completely changing how I approached it. Now I pass on that knowledge to my younger colleagues. Pushed my mentees to embrace new technologies encouraging them to adapt in our ever-changing HR world. A daily example is when a member helped to handle a tough situation with an employee sharing my own stories & give practical advice so they can learn to handle similar situations on their own. During PMS reviews, I use my personal experiences to show how good leadership & communication make a difference. By sharing these stories, I not only guide but create a culture of always learning spreading positive influence.

"Sharing is caring" is a fundamental lesson taught from early childhood, reminding us of the importance of generosity and support. Mentoring embodies this ethos by guiding, empowering, & nurturing mentees to grow both professionally and personally. True leadership emerges when individuals groom others, guiding them through the complexities of the corporate world, sharing expertise, and fostering their development of thoughts & ideas. Additionally, it's vital to encourage mentees to embrace their authenticity and originality, avoiding mere imitation. Moreover, they should be empowered to "pass the baton" when they encounter future mentees, perpetuating the cycle of support & growth.
