Using models that also explain the process of output generation by algorithm i.e. Decision Tree models for task of prediction or Hierarchical clustering for segmentation. 2. Using examples which relate to the day-to-day life of audience. Ex: to explain clustering, we can conduct a clustering demo by segmenting all the meeting participants on the basis of their dress color, professional skills, or demographic details etc. 3. Sensitivity Analysis: It can be used to show how variations in the input leads to changes in model output. 4. Visualizations: Some additional visualizations to highlight important characteristics of model such as Feature importance chart , Tree plot, or Snake plot etc.

To help stakeholders grasp complex ML algorithms, simplify the concepts by using analogies and real-world examples that relate to their experiences. Visual aids, such as charts and diagrams, can illustrate how the algorithms work. Focus on the practical implications and benefits rather than the technical details, highlighting how the algorithms solve specific problems or improve outcomes. Provide clear, concise explanations and avoid jargon, breaking down the process into smaller, understandable steps. Additionally, interactive demonstrations or prototypes can help stakeholders see the algorithms in action, making the concepts more tangible and easier to understand.

Stakeholders should not be treated like tech people who want to understand the algorithms in detail. And in fact, they don't need to get into that much detail. I suggest using abstractions and describing the input and output of the ML algorithms, like what we give and what we get, without going into the details of how exactly this happens.

If you are explaining it to a vc, specially not from a very large firm, then: - sound as confident as possible, they do not have any clue about technology frameworks and are just speculating stuff. - be prepared with proof of concepts and industry examples to baffle them. Visuals are a huge plus. - If they want to get into details keep a huge appendix ready with pipelines, and use technical terms very confidently, even though you are not yourself sure about it. You just have to show them you know your stuff and aren't just overpromising.

"If you cannot explain something simply, you do not know it well enough." Consider your audience as those without any formal knowledge of your field. Often times, stakeholders are not well versed in deep mathematical fields like Machine Learning. Practice by presenting the algorithm, its inputs and outputs, and the architecture as though you are speaking to an audience of the completely uninformed. Consider how you would explain it to a child. Believe it or not, most ML algorithms can be broken down into these simple terms... IF you understand it well enough. When you find gaps, areas difficult to explain in simple terms, write them down and get to researching!

From my experience, it's crucial to avoid using a term unless: 1. It is a common term and you're confident your audience is familiar with it. 2. You have clearly explained it, ensuring your audience understands it. Using a term that isn't clear to your audience can cause them to fixate on it, distracting them from the rest of what you're saying. This can make them lose track of your point, leading to a cycle of confusion and disconnection. Always build a narrative around what you're explaining, introducing each concept step-by-step. Only move forward once you're confident that what you've explained so far is understood, allowing your audience to stay engaged with you.

Machine learning can sound complicated, but using simple words makes it easier to understand. That could be what makes or breaks your ML project sometimes - simplifying terms. If you simplify them, you might get further with the progress of your project, it might get approved or disapproved. Plus on top of that, it’ll also help you understand the topic better and how the project can be applied in your domain.

Going to deep into the concept might not actually help and may even make it harder to understand and try keep it over the layers and you could visually showcase what each layers in a model does. The best example would be how a picture passed through a series of convolution layers would look at each layers and how it helps us to find a pattern which can be looked for in an image that needs to be classified.

Google Colab is the best option for sharing the ML code. In a Colab Notebook, We can create many plots for distribution of data & relationships between different parameters. We can add some text & comments as well. Google Colab can be used in presentation/meetings & code can be executed in real-time for demonstration of different parameters. 📈 Plots can help stackholders in getting a clear picture of data distribution & mathematical process applied on it.

Interactive demonstrations can significantly enhance understanding. Conduct live demos to show the algorithm in action. If feasible, involve stakeholders in a basic hands-on activity that illustrates the algorithm's workings. This interactive approach helps solidify their understanding through direct experience. Highlighting key metrics focuses stakeholders' attention on the results. Emphasize the main performance metrics that the algorithm improves, such as accuracy, efficiency, or cost savings. A before-and-after comparison can be particularly persuasive, showing how the algorithm enhances current methods. Telling a story is a powerful way to make your explanation more engaging and memorable.

Incorporate interactive examples or demonstrations to engage stakeholders. Showing how the algorithm works in real-time can provide a hands-on understanding and make the concepts more tangible.

Stakeholders usually do not need the technical details of any project they are involved in. More often than not, trying to explain something as black-boxed as AI and ML algorithms leads to miscommunication and wrong expectations. If it is necessary for a non-technical stakeholder to understand technical aspects of the project then it is best to explain the algorithms in a very abstract way using overly-simplified real life examples.

One thing that i have found helpful is you discover new ways of explaining complex algorithns and neural networks to non technical audience is by teaching them through their own knowledge of their domain. During my tutoring session i explained one of the optimization problem to a Business analyst student by giving him an example of clothing brands, how different factors are taken care of to increase revenue and decrease cost. So relating to a particular person's background you can think of examples to explain them and your prespective and knowledge to discover these ML techniques in a new way.

Personalisation and showcasing impact is essential. Stakeholders don't care about the amazing state-of-the-art algorithm devised. They only care about how the output of your work impacts them. Lead with that before getting into a very brief overview of the algorithm. For example, when working with graph networks, my team lead and I created personalised social network graphs for the stakeholders and showcased those, which helped them understand our work much more efficiently. This is valid for stakeholders who don't have a background in ML. For stakeholders with experience in ML, talk about the math and the different attempts made to solve it and the result each of them gave.

Start by gauging the technical proficiency of your stakeholders. Tailor your explanation to their level of understanding, avoiding unnecessary jargon.

I think it’s worth thinking about, before you even start with your project - what tools are you going to use? Python would probably be at the top of the list. The good thing about Python is that is can provide you a good explanation (using comments) and visual aids (the code itself).

Finally, provide follow-up resources for stakeholders who want to delve deeper into the subject. Offer detailed documents that explain the algorithm in greater detail and recommend articles, videos, or courses for further learning. This additional information can help interested stakeholders gain a more comprehensive understanding of the technology.
