As a recruiter and career coach I do oppose resume-building software, and I highly advocate for a more personalized touch. Crafting a resume that stands out requires a deep understanding of the role and industry, so it's essential to customize each section manually to reflect your unique experiences and skills. Utilize a simple, clean format that you can adapt individually for each application. This allows for greater control over how you present your professional narrative, ensuring your value proposition and personality shine through without generic templates. Feedback and revisions are still crucial; they provide an opportunity for continuous improvement and alignment with the target role's requirements.

Chronological: Lists work history in reverse order, emphasizing career progression and stability. 2. Functional: Shifts focus to skills and achievements rather than work history, suitable for addressing gaps, changes, or limited experience. 3. Hybrid: Blends both formats, featuring a skills summary followed by a chronological work history. This format combines the strengths of both approaches.

As a Career Transition Coach with a specialty in resume writing, I recommend of all 3 of these formats and here's why. A chronological resume gives the recruiter a clear idea how long you have been in each position in your career and overall (they want to make sure you don't jump from place to place too frequently.) The aspects of a functional resume are extremely signficiant but need to be worked into your chronological resume instead of laid out separately. Achivements are key b/c they let us know that you didn't just do the job description, you excelled in the position. Why not show off your skills! Although I recommend both - I don't just recommend a hybird format. It's a matter of working both of them in together vs. separately.

Don’t just list your duties and responsibilities on your resume. Show the employer how you made a difference and what results you delivered. 3. Use a simple and professional template that has a clear format. 4. Remember, a recruiter skims your resume for 6-12 seconds. Shorten and simplify your content to make it more readable and relevant. 5. Don't use the generic resume for all the job posts make some changes according to the job description. Remember, your resume is your marketing tool and your first impression. Make it count and stand out.

I would disagree with the advice here to use different text colours, fonts etc. Sometimes the fancy CVs cause issues with ATS. I would recommend a simpler, cleaner CV style.

You will want to customize your resume depending on the industry you are applying to. If you are applying to marketing or design related jobs, a stylized resume might be a good way to go. However, if you are applying to academia, for example, having too much color and fonts is going to be distracting. Using resume software to give you some ideas and help you brainstorm is great, but do not rely on it to create your final product. Your resume should be in your voice and reflect you, not a computer bot.

Puedes usar AI (como Canva o Kickresume) para apoyarte en el proceso de crear un formato base, pero definitivamente, debes ser responsable por auditar, optimizar y adaptar tu CV a cada aplicación. Es decir, siempre vas a tener una copia Master que te sirve de partida, pero vas a tener que hacer un pequeño proceso de análisis y modificación para poder hacer tu CV lo más atractivo posible al reclutador/ hiring manager en cuanto a cómo tu experiencia y habilidades se alinean a lo que pide la posición 🙌

In my experience having hired more than 1,200 people across the globe I can tell you that your resume serves but a single purpose - to answer the unasked questions of all recruiters and hiring manager which is "What's in it for us if we work with you?" Here's how you answer that question: 1. Identify your strengths 2. Find employers who need those strengths 3. Craft a concise and compelling resume that showcases exactly what you've done or can do that solves the problems that need solving in that job - use the "accomplished X, by doing Y, resulting in Z" format in your experience section bullets. (3-5 bullets max.) 4. Only apply to roles that need what you offer. Do this in a targeted way and you'll find your new job quickly. #onward

Feedback can be good especially when we become 'word blind' to the Cv ourselves. But be aware that too much Input/opinion from others can lead to a dilution of your voice.

Your resume is a dynamic document; it needs to evolve and adapt. Talk with experienced recruiters, mentors in the industry or people who are hiring a lot and ask for feedback.

1) Your CV should not exceed 2 pages. 2) If there is a sector you have experience in, you can indicate in the summary if you want to continue there. 3) You should include your specialties as keywords in the summary section. 4) Your CV should include your current contact information. 5) If you have more than 10 years of work experience, high school, or internships are information that no longer needs to be included in your CV.

One thing I've found interesting is how recruiters and hiring managers are looking more closely at personal webpages, and digital links that showcase your work. If you haven't already, consider creating a webpage specific to your talent and achievements. Showcase YOUR work in them. Be ready to explain in detail each item. Go beyond the Word or PowerPoint document.

Here's the thing. The job market is tough. Standing out to recruiters and hiring managers is tough. Do you want to know what recruiters and hiring managers like? Relationships. Meaningful connections. It's not about listing your skills and experiences; it's about building a relationship that transcends the application process. Over the course of my career, I've read over 364,000 CVs. The candidates I've represented. I don't need their CV in front of me. I know them. It’s not just about the document itself; it's about initiating and nurturing a relationship. Don't treat your interactions with recruiters as transactional exchanges. View it as a long-term connection that extends beyond immediate job opportunities

I want to emphasize the solid advice on the value of networking. According to Zippia.com's 2022 statistics, "85% of all jobs are filled through networking" Also, "70% of all jobs are never published publicly...Many of these jobs are either posted internally to those already at the company or created specifically for candidates that recruiters may meet through networking...with a job match occurring in a time frame of one to three months...Additionally, these job offers are often higher in quality...with a higher salary and a higher title." In addition, "More than 90% of recruiters use LinkedIn to search for candidates..." My advice is to spend 70% networking, 20% on LinkedIn branding, and 10% applying with resume w/o a referral.
