Sharing the same vision and roadmap allows the team to reach a stronger alignment and heading in the same way. Thus increasing productivity and efficiency.

I can share some of the common misconceptions about Agile methodologies that I have encountered. •Agile is only for software development: Although it gained popularity in software development, Agile principles can be applied to various project types and industries, focusing on collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement. •That you don't need to track progress closely. Tracking progress towards the sprint goal and monitoring key metrics is crucial. Just because progress is evaluated incrementally doesn't mean it shouldn't be measured. •That teams don't need to coordinate efforts at all. There should still be coordination across teams and awareness of dependencies to deliver larger initiatives.

The notion that Agile equates to no planning is a common misconception. As a certified product owner, I would clarify that Agile involves adaptive, iterative planning, not its absence. Agile methodology requires a clear vision, roadmap, and backlog, while remaining flexible to adapt to changing requirements and feedback. Teams plan in short cycles, such as sprints or iterations, with regular reviews in daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring alignment with goals and responsiveness to stakeholder needs. This approach balances structured planning with the agility to pivot as necessary.

In Agile, documentation is still important, but it's about what's useful and brings value. It's important to create documentation that supports project needs without adding unnecessary overhead. The goal is to streamline processes, improve collaboration, and deliver value to stakeholders.

Agile requires documentation. Personally, I'd prefer to use the word "excessive" documentation over the word "comprehensive" documentation. Agile requires the simplified documentation, where we identify which documents are useful which ones are not, which ones are required and which one are not. We need to understand some or even many documents contain redundant content that occur in many other documents that may result in findings due to inconsistency content. Hence, documents are not the enemy of agile, but the way we create and develop documents must be changed. At the end of the day, human civilization is recorded in documentation. No documents mean the project is not civilized!

We must acknowledge why we document, In my words, it is to avoid building silos of information and that knowledge is shared in the team. Referring to the Agile Manifesto, special attention must be given to the phrase "... while there is value in the items on the right, [they] value the items on the left more..." Emphasizing on prioritization of working software over comprehensive documentation. This was never intended to advocate for a complete absence of documentation. lastly, in waterfall, work progression hinges on the completion of documentation, whereas in Agile the emphasis is on just enough documentation to initiate the work.

With documentation in any context it is useful to distinguish who it is for. In R&D the two typical categories are Product Documents, intended for the users of the finished product and Development Documents, intended for the people planning, designing, and implementing the product. In Agile, Product Documentation is in no way different compared to any other framwework, but due to the highly iterative nature of development, less Development Documentation is needed. Here one should avoid long formal documents and only produce as much as is needed to be able to continue in the next iteration of development.

Originally, "hierarchy" denoted a structure of power and authority. However, within Agile teams, the concept takes on a different connotation. While team members may hold varying positions in the organizational hierarchy, this shouldn't disrupt the team's dynamics. Clear roles, responsibilities, and shared accountability are essential as teams form.

Sure, scope can be changed during the course of a project. But agile must have scope. In fact every single project must have clear vision what to deliver, whether agile or waterfall. However in agile we are allowed to change the scope of work to achieve the vision or the goal, while in waterfall every single scope of work must be defined and agreed in advance. Hence, agile is perfect for projects with high uncertainty where trial and error is involved and resulting the flexibility of scope but still clear vision of the goal.

In Agile, having a clear plan is crucial. Teams outline a minimum viable product (MVP) with essential features for usability and value. This applies also to services and everything we do. Agile teams also handle the plan, deciding which features are most important based on their impact, feasibility, and how well they match project goals. This ensures that products and services meet user needs, business goals, and what the team can realistically achieve.

I would complete with Agile means no deadlines: Some people think that Agile means you don't have deadlines. While Agile does value flexibility and responding to change, it doesn't mean that deadlines are not important. It just means that you should be willing to adjust your plans if necessary.

In Agile, teams encounter problems like any other team. However, what sets them apart is their approach. They use problem-solving, continuous learning, and collaborative sharing to address challenges and improve. It's not about dodging problems but about growing stronger through constant improvement.

DISCIPLINE! Agile requires the highest level of discipline because whatever we do is limited by time. We may be allowed to change the scope, but the trade-off is that we are not allowed to delay the target date. Once we commit to the sprint goal, this means we are committed to deliver it within the sprint because it is time-boxed. Whatever we do, time-constraint must be the first thing that we need to consider.
