You’ve just finished a phone interview. What should you do next?

Always send a follow-up "Thank you for the opportunity to speak with them" email. Use professionalism and gratitude and don't burn any bridges if you are not chosen. Personally, I will contact the Recruiter only twice as being a Recruiter myself, I understand their workload and will not make a nuisance of myself. If you impress them and you have the experience needed, they will let you know.

Send a well worded, professional, succinct thank you note to the people with whom you interviewed. Set a reminder to check back in with the recruiter or hiring manager (or both), depending on who your main point of contact is, no later than a week after the interview. I think you can safely follow up 3 business days after.

Sending a follow-up message is key but I recommend taking it beyond a basic thank you note. In addition to thanking them for the meeting, touch on a few key points that stood out to you and use it as an opportunity to share other relevant reflections you may have that you didn't get to during the conversation. If you have a resource (podcast, article, tool etc.) that you referenced in the conversation you can also share it with the interview team to highlight your resourcefulness and content knowledge. Consider it a way to continue building connections!

I would personally always try to review the performance on a phone interview as soon as it's over to note quickly what could have done better. Reviewing on how the following : ➡️Clarity - Was I clear enough ? ➡️Tone - Was my tone appropriate ? ➡️Vocabulary - Did I use the same word multiple times ? ➡️Speed - Did I talk too fast or too slow ? Taking notes and assessing each performance will ultimately help the improvement on interview performance

Interviewing is a very important skill in our era and it needs to be improved over and over again, certainly while looking for a job. I always recommend the job seekers I accompany to record the conversations and come to meetings with me with the recordings. Together we analyze the questions, the answers, the tone of voice, the confidence, etc... and then they arrive better for the following conversations.

I think this is great, because everyone does get nervous during interviews, and some interview questions can take you off guard. Writing down questions you were asked and how you answered them could also get you thinking if there could have been a way to answer them better. Or maybe you have another scenario you could have used in a behavioral or situational interview question that you can try to remember in the future. This is also good reflection to help you write a "thank you" note, you could clarify a question you answered if you feel it's necessary.

I would recommend to follow up with the recruiter soon after the interview either by email or phone depending on their previous communication style. They want to fill the position(s) so will want to hear how the interview went from your perspective and your thoughts on the role and the company. If you are a strong candidate then you will have other options so they need to know how quickly they need to move to secure you, how likely you are to accept a job offer or to attend the next round. And most importantly if they don’t hear from you, then they might assume you are not interested in progressing.

Maybe someone here will shed some light into the elephant in the room: Other than the obvious "rude" candidate, what are the other reasons a recruiter/HR/HM would ghost a candidate? What is the perceived "value" obtained from ghosting a candidate? Why is it expected for a candidate to reach out after an interview to show "interest" and "professionalism" and looked down upon if the candidate does not reach out, but a recruiter/HR/HM is allowed to ghost them? Let's all remember, Respect and Professionalism is a 2-way street.

Always remember that a good recruiter will always have your best interest at heart. Following up with the recruiter within 24 hours after the interview is a good way to show your interest in the position, unless told otherwise. The recruiter can help you review your performance and give you honest feedback that can help you improve your performance.

Every recruiter will have a different approach and it's important to get a grasp of his/her personality but also aligned on the communication channel moving forward. Ask the recruiter how long it will take to get a feedback. Sending an emailt /text, 3 days after the interview should be sufficient to give enough time to the recruiter to get feedback.

Indeed - The job search doesn't end after a phone interview. Applying +Networking + Following up ... is the formula to secure a new opportunity.

Unless you have an offer letter in hand, it is a good idea to keep applying and networking. The idea is to generate as many interviews as possible and ideally have multiple offers to choose from. Always keep applying and networking, unless you have an offer letter in hand that you are excited about.

It is very gratifying to receive a phone call from a recruiter, because it means that the resume is good and working. But it is important to remember that this is only an initial stage in the process, and together with you there are quite a few job seekers who have passed this stage, therefore it is important to continue your other processes and continue to send resumes for other jobs that interest you.

Good job on getting a phone interview, this is normal protocol for companies to screen potential candidates. Continue to put yourself out there, it's working, you're being noticed. You're not done applying until you have been given an offer, keep your eye on the prize.

I remember when I was laid off, I continued to apply and interview until I received a written job offer and I signed it. Even when you feel an interview went great, sometimes it doesn't always pan out. Even if the job is your first choice, still continue to apply and schedule interviews. You never know, the perfect job for you could come up while waiting on a slow company to respond. If you are worried you are applying to too many - keep a filing system like a list or spreadsheet of the jobs you've applied to, where you are at in the interview process, to help keep yourself organized. But so you also know where you are in that process. Visuals are great tools

Consider taking a nap, talking to people is mentally and physically draining for you. Go right back to bed and practice self-care. Maybe don't wake up until dinner time and eat a Hungry man microwaveable meal over the sink because that's about as much energy as you can muster.

Take a deep breath and remember your training from watching the show Supernatural because in all likelihood you're about to get ghosted.

Additional interviewing tips: - Show up to EVERY interview prepared - even an HR phone interview. I love when candidates know about our company. Review the companies website for a few minutes before an interview to familiarize yourself with what they do as a business. 2. Be prepared to talk about your experience in detail. Do not just say "its on my resume" - hiring managers want to hear what you've done and how you've done it, attention to detail and giving examples is very important. 3. Have questions for the company - they're not just interviewing you, you are also interviewing them to see if they are a good employer. Ask about timeline, culture, benefits, etc 4. Express your interest at the end of every interview (if you liked the job)!

Treat Yourself: After the stress of an interview, why not indulge in something you enjoy? Whether it's your favorite meal, a movie marathon, or a relaxing bath, take some time to pamper yourself and unwind.

After the interview, take a break and think about how it went. Note down any questions you found hard and any new ones you heard. Then, take care of yourself by eating well, resting, and staying positive. Believe that things will work out when they're supposed to.
