Great to see our Bradford Energy Network becoming a reality. A huge thank-you to our partners and in particular ThermaMech for delivering the project safely, on time, and with minimal distruption.

On Tuesday, the 1Energy team were delighted to host our first event at the House of Commons, bringing together multiple MPs, customers, and stakeholders from the towns and cities across the country where we’re driving change. Together we discussed the future of green heat networks and the vital role they have to play in: - lowering the cost of decarbonising heat;  - improving air quality;  - creating high-value jobs and apprenticeships; and, thanks to the development of 1Energy’s “Bradford Blueprint”,  - crowding-in private investment to the market. 🌱💡 Our CEO Andrew Wettern described how, in the span of just over three years, 1Energy has grown from a start-up to having over £600m of heat networks in development—well on the way to achieving our aim of deploying £1bn over the next 8 years. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to Steve Race, the MP for Exeter—who not only hosted the event on 1Energy's behalf, but continues to be a great supporter of our low-carbon heat network in Exeter. The event was a great reminder of the power of collaboration, and we’re excited to continue our work alongside such inspiring leaders, businesses, and communities. It's been a big year for our Bradford Energy Network team, completing construction of the city centre pipe network, starting to build the energy centre, and securing our first partners— University of Bradford, Bradford College and HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). 📢 With £75M secured, including £20M from the UK Government’s Green Heat Network Fund, we’re thrilled to announce the official launch of the Bradford Energy Network - a groundbreaking heat pump-powered heat network designed to keep Bradfordians warm while decarbonising heating and tackling air pollution across the city.  Delivered in partnership with the University of Bradford, Bradford College and HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), our city-wide heat network represents a major step toward decarbonising heat - the UK’s largest source of carbon emissions. By replacing fossil fuel gas boilers, our project will reduce these emissions by 75% and cut other forms of air pollution by 80% in its first phase. The result? A greener, healthier Bradford and a blueprint for a national rollout of low carbon heat networks. Why this matters:  🔥 Heating is the UK’s largest source of carbon emissions.  ⚡ Connecting to a heat network is the lowest cost, simplest and fastest route to decarbonising heat at scale.  🔧 By helping organisations address the retrofit challenge, we’re reducing emissions from existing buildings. Since 80% of the buildings that will be in use by 2050 already exist today, this work is crucial.  💼 Creating local jobs and strengthening the local supply chain.  📈 Attracting investment to Bradford - the UK’s youngest city and the 2025 City of Culture.  🌍 Inspiring other cities and towns to follow suit, driving a just transition for all. Last week, we held a launch event for our Milton Keynes Energy Network. We gathered experts from across #MiltonKeynes to discuss the project, the benefits it will bring to the community, and the practicalities of delivering a new piece of city-wide energy infrastructure. Thank you to all our guest speakers: 👉 @Nicholas Hannon (Milton Keynes City Council) who spoke about the Council's Waste Recovery Park facility and the opportunity to provide waste heat into our network. 👉 Anthony Marsh (Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) who explained how the hospital secured funding and developed a business case to connect to our network. 👉 Elaine Anning (Global City Futures) who described some of the challenges and opportunities around decarbonising heat in the public sector.   #MiltonKeynesEnergyNetwork #energytransition #NetZero #communityengagement

As construction of our £75m Bradford Energy Network progresses at pace, we are proud to announce the Network's first customer: HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). HMCTS has signed a 20-year agreement to connect the Bradford Combined Court Centre and Magistrates Court to the Network in 2026, making them two of the first court buildings in England to be heated by renewable energy. The deal is expected to save 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (tCO2) by replacing heat generated from building-scale gas boilers with heat from our low-to-zero carbon network. We're grateful to HMCTS for having the vision and confidence in 1Energy and the Bradford Energy Network to sign this agreement, as well as the brilliant teams at FairHeat, Pinsent Masons and Salix who have helped to make it a reality. A great day all round yesterday: an ex-steel works venue, breakfast sarnies and a whole lot of talk about Decarbonising Heat in #Rotherham at our event.   We heard from Ben Hughes at the University of Sheffield about the importance of decarbonising heat to achieve net zero by 2050 and Kris Mackay at Wellnorth Enterprises about the wider benefits of developing Rotherham's green economy. And of course, we discussed our plans for the Rotherham Energy Network as a means of delivering cost effective, low carbon heat to homes and businesses in the town. We asked everyone who attended to take away one thing: that we urgently need to change the way we heat our buildings.   A special thanks to the speakers, Cannon PR and Jennifer Belk, Jonathan Broderick and Katherine Fish for pulling it all together.
