  • Our team is setting out into The Long Walk. This is the season where our team digs in alongside our community, our partners and our bold vision to move the big work forward. To learn more about this season at 20 Degrees, read more from Co-Founder & CEO Sara Gibson. https://lnkd.in/evRGxqs6

The Long Walk of #2025 begins. This is the season--from now until July 4th--where we all do the darn thing. We spend the rest of the year finishing it up, resting, and moving onto the next. But make no mistake--what we decide to do in January are the strategic, impactful, and often demanding tasks that move the needle. I call it The Long Walk. So, what makes for a successful Long Walk? Just like in actual walking, it means being clear about your goal, having a reasonably thought-out route, and having enough openness to take a detour as opportunities or roadblocks emerge. You also have to have the right shoes. Some things are non-negotiable as you begin a new adventure. It also helps to have the right company, enough snacks, some water, and--as a bonus--a good cup of coffee. Knowing what you need even to make it possible and knowing what will make it easier and even enjoyable are important planning activities. I am eager and a little intimidated by the route I will be walking alongside my tremendous team this year 20 Degrees. 2025 will test us in some new and probably uncomfortable ways. It's not like that's new, but--as my father says--you gotta get your mind right. So, with clarity through our strategic plan, a deep commitment to listening to our community and team, and some new shoes to start the year, I'm off to begin walk. Onward! Previously, I called this time "The Slog" but got some feedback that wasn't precisely..inspiring. And it's probably not even accurate. It only feels like a slog for a brief spell in the early spring. It also implies a sense of boredom and predictability, which isn't true of any walk worth taking. Wishing you luck as you begin your Long Walk. What have you packed? I'm rested and ready...so let the walking begin...call me if you want a buddy for a few miles. #2025begins

  • Thinking about the year ahead? Wondering where to start to bring your thinking into 2025? Start here if you aren't sure. This is a piece our co-founders, Tom Bartlett and Sara Gibson penned exactly for this moment in the The Chronicle of Philanthropy. A little glimpse of the piece, "The good news: For many of us, we can flex the muscle memory we honed after the 2016 and 2020 elections. We’re also gleaning information in real-time about American values, priorities, and hopes, and these insights need to shape our conversations as we move forward. Whether this is your first time navigating post-election uncertainty or the third, here are three immediate steps we recommend you take to prepare for the new administration. Plan for Various Scenarios We don’t yet know what the incoming administration’s priorities will be, but we have some ideas — Project 2025, Trump’s fiscal policies and tax agenda, including Agenda 47 — and a sense that certain industries, such as health care, climate, and education will be deprioritized over others, such as tech, finance, and criminal justice." There are other steps in the article. We hope you find them helpful and actionable. After that, check out our toolkit on the 20 Degrees website. You've got this. Together, we endure. Together, we rise. https://lnkd.in/ekJVVG6t

  • Winter Closure Announcement 20 Degrees will be closed from December 24, 2024, to January 2, 2025, giving our team the opportunity to recharge and prepare for a year of scarcity slaying in 2025. During this time, all staff will be on leave. We appreciate your understanding and wish you a joyful and restful holiday season. We look forward to reconnecting in the new year!

  • Last week, our #earlychildhood team spent time IRL with our new Early Childhood Director, Allyson D. Andrews, MSW, LLMSW. We've come to see that when new leaders start, making time to work, talk, and dream together can accelerate all the change we made to make a reality. We spent time planning, talking, scheming, and making some calls about where we could move the needle together, as the business of early childhood is again front and center. It was a real treat to see how Allyson, Frances Paul, Crystal L., and our co-founders Tom Bartlett and Sara Gibson started to come together as a team. We can't wait for our larger community to see the action. Enjoy glimpses of our team and those smiles. Bonus points for a sighting of one of the 20 Degrees fur babies, too! Thank you also to Bill Mefford of the Festival Center for helping us efficiently host our meetings! #culture #teambuilding #strongstart

  • If you are looking ahead to the year and wondering if you have accounted for the uncertainty of the moment, take a moment to read through the free 20 Degrees Post Election Toolkit we just released! This toolkit seeks to support leaders who ask, "How should I plan for and consider the next year in terms of revenue, programs, and staffing?" This toolkit builds on the success of earlier free tools for nonprofit leaders who know the stakes but only sometimes receive tools and approaches tailored to their needs in moments of consequence. Take a look, share them widely, and join us on December 18th for a webinar where we will walk through the tools and answer questions. Our team built this to support the nonprofit sector, which will continue to serve daily. Together, we endure. Together, we rise. https://lnkd.in/ezjyYCMb
