  • What an inspiring day at the groundbreaking of 224! 🌟 It was truly special to hear from our incredible young people and our new Ambassador, Ellis Genge. The room (or rather marquee) was filled with energy and excitement as we celebrated this exciting milestone with our ambassadors, partners, supporters, Founder Patrons, and, of course, the stars of the day—our young people! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, especially the young speakers who took to the stage with such passion and confidence alongside Ellis. We are all so excited to see this project develop and grow in the coming months. And a big shout out to Galliford Try for hosting us on-site and supporting this memorable event. • This is a fantastic example of the transformative impact youth work can have, not only on the lives of young people but also on those who go on to become leaders in the field. Levi's journey—from engaging with Youth Moves as a young person to becoming a youth worker and studying at Plymouth Marjon University—demonstrates the long-term positive outcomes of investment in youth services and creative spaces like the upcoming 224 Youth Zone. It's inspiring to see how initiatives like these, combined with funding opportunities such as the NatWest Group's Levy funding, can support individuals like Levi to thrive personally and professionally. This synergy of innovative facilities and dedicated youth work creates an environment where young people can explore their potential, try new things, and build lasting relationships. 224 Youth Zone promises to be a beacon for such transformative experiences, enabling countless young people to follow their dreams and develop into future leaders. Levi’s story is a testament to the power of investing in young people and the incredible results it can create.

Levi Hodge, 28, has been involved in youth work for over 10 years. He’s now in the second year of a Level 6-degree apprenticeship in Youth Work at Plymouth Marjon University, thanks to Levy funding from our corporate partner NatWest Group. Levi combines his study with supporting young people at Youth Moves, the youth club in South Bristol which he attended as a young person himself. In his early teens Levi often played truant and participated in anti-social behaviour, but his youth worker Denise, helped him gain the self-belief he needed to see a different path. “I genuinely think if I hadn’t gone to Youth Moves, I probably would have ended up in prison. But instead, I got my head down, got GCSE’s and went to college.”  Levi is now completing a degree level qualification to help him pursue his vocation as a youth worker. He said: “I’m the first in my family to go to university which I've always wanted to do, but thought it was out of my reach. Things are very different to how I saw my life 15 years ago” Thanks to NatWest’s generosity, free apprenticeship training through the Levy transfer funding is allowing us to increase the number of professional youth workers with a Level 3, or Level 6 qualification (equivalent to a degree) and provide a clear training and progression route for those already in the sector, driving essential growth in the workforce. • 224 is an OnSide Youth Zone and will join its network of Youth Zones across the country. Today, OnSide has launched its annual report 'Generation Isolation', which reveals what young people in England do in their spare time. Results are very worrying and show that 76% of young people spend their free time on screens, 18% spend most of their free time alone and 44% of young people feel high or very high levels of anxiety. This is why a facility like 224 is so vital! It will provide a place for young people to connect with others, learn new skills and explore new opportunities - away from their screens.
