Rescuing kidneys. Ending the waitlist.
About us
Every day in the US, approximately 34 patients are removed from the transplant waiting list either because they die or they become too sick to receive a transplant. Our mission is to bring that number down to zero by developing innovative technology and services that will extend the safe preservation times for unused kidneys. The 34 Lives Leadership Team represents a combined 100+ years of experience in the fields of transplantation, healthcare, policy and technology. CEO Chris Jaynes developed the equipment and technology for ex-vivo or out-of-body lung assessment and is using his background and previous successes to also improve kidney transplantation. CCO and Co-founder Kathleen St. Jean built a 30-year career at Merck & Co., Inc., with a number of leadership roles in Sales, Professional Learning & Development and Customer Strategy. Giving Thanks for Mission-Based Work that Saves Lives! We couldn’t have asked for a more appropriate week to announce a truly significant milestone: our 34th successful kidney rescue and transplant. We give thanks to o LifeGift, the Organ Procurement Organization covering Houston and Ft. Worth, Texas, who provided the kidney for the 34th transplant o The organ transplant team at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC, who performed the transplant o Honorable and selfless organ donors and their families o Organ transplant patients who bravely and patiently wait for the day their luck will change o Team members at 34 Lives who work unrelentingly with dedication and focus to bring true innovation to organ transplantation. What a day!!! One of my favorites of all times. Our 5th kidney that we rescued went to Sylvia Miles. (She is with her daughter)It happened 6 months ago. Her life was changed and she hasn’t felt this good in 10 years. I am so thankful that at 34 Lives we are doing something that is changing the lives of people waiting for a transplant. Most importantly, I am so thankful that we are relentlessly focused on ensuring the gift of donation is realized and our priority is to work tirelessly to get hard to place kidneys to a recipient. More great stories to share….

Sen. Todd Young paid a visit to 16 Tech Innovation District, encouraging Indiana’s business and research leaders to pursue more federal funding to drive critical health innovations through the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). This federal agency was established in 2022 to fast-track #biomedical advancements by funding high-impact projects and recently awarded a $44 million, five-year contract to 34 Lives, a West Lafayette company focused on increasing the number of donor kidneys available for life-saving transplants. #funding #research #biotech #healthcare #indiana

Chris and Kathleen were delighted to attend the ARPA-H press conference today with Sen. Todd Young (second from right), ARPA-H Director Dr. Renee Wegryzn (second from left), 16 Tech CEO Emily Krueger (far right) and most of all, star transplant patient Sylvia Miles (third from left). Without the $44M award from ARPA-H, our research to innovate the science of kidney transplantation could not possibly move as quickly and efficiently as it will with their support. Today I had the opportunity to tour 34 Lives, which is revolutionizing kidney transplants. Using innovative #technology, they rescue kidneys that were once considered unusable and extend the safe preservation times for unused kidneys. Since their establishment in April this year, 34 Lives has already saved over 20 lives. Their impact is continuing to grow. They are continuing to expand their efforts, partnering with Purdue University to build on their life-saving work. Their dedication to improving #healthcare and changing the future of organ donation is inspiring. A special thank you to the team (Kathleen and Nick) at 34 Lives for sharing their incredible mission with us today!
