826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications. All of our free programs seek to strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.

Shout out to the incredible Writers' Room Ambassadors at the Boston International Newcomers Academy Writers' Room! 🎉 Meet the students who have stepped up as leaders in the Writers' Room Ambassadors program—now in its fourth year. These seniors are doing incredible work, from assisting their peers with college essays to leading creative projects like Bridging Borders and decorating the space to make it welcoming for everyone. This paid internship is open to all students, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate and grow as leaders. What’s YOUR elevator pitch? Last week YMWAP’s students and alums participated in our first Elevator Pitch Workshop led by our partner, 826 Boston. After learning about elevator pitches, including their purpose, value, and the best settings to employ them in, young men got to work drafting their own pitches, guided by these questions: 1) Who am I? What are my skills and interests? 2) What have I achieved and what do I hope to achieve? 3) Why do I want to do these things? What is my purpose? The experience was excellent preparation for YMWAP’s networking events planned over the next few weeks.

✨ We love this one-year work anniversary reflection from Daphne Constantinides, a K-8 Specialist at Boston Teachers Union Pilot School (BTU) Writers' Room. We’re so lucky to have you on our team, Daphne!
Today marks my one-year anniversary of starting my AmeriCorps service at 826 Boston in the Boston Teachers Union School Writers’ Room. This past year in the Writers’ Room has been filled with many silly collaborative stories, a plethora of poetry programming, lots of relearning middle school math, and an inordinate amount of yarn for our beloved crochet club. Above all, it’s been a year of immense growth and joy. I am especially grateful for The BTU Writers’ Room Team for their endless support and encouragement, the 826 Boston AmeriCorps cohort for their comradery and dedication to empowering students, and the incredible students at BTU. I’m so excited to see what else I can learn from 826 Boston, and new opportunities this service year will bring!

My name is Olive and I volunteer at 826 Boston’s After-School Writing and Tutoring Program and the Boston International Newcomers Academy Writers' Room. I'm a psychology major and a first-year student at Simmons University. I've been volunteering at 826 Boston for the past few months and look forward to working with the organization for the next four years!" Here’s what our team has to say about Olive: “Olive has been a wonderful addition to the Writers' Room volunteer roster. She has been super helpful in finalizing projects for the Writers' Room. She aided in the research for our cultural series on Native American Heritage Month. She is always incredibly friendly and energetic in her tutoring sessions and connects with her students. She is very hands-on with programming and is up for any task.
