Nice little write-up about a campaign from earlier this year with the awesome crew at Haberman and director extraordinaire, Sam Washington. I know we've posted some of this work already, but what can we say - we're excited about it! Launching some other new non-caffeinated work soon!

Thanks for the coverage Marvel Entertainment! The full series is now live and it has been great to see fan reactions. I appreciate our own Dream Team of Neel Upadhye and Donovan Brown among many, many others that brought this to life. Which one is your favorite? https://lnkd.in/gfuvUtcP

This is a super fun breakdown of our Marvel production. Thank you Neel Upadhye for putting this together! That's what's so great about this job - we're forced to "always be learning!"

Always be learning. Here’s my key takeaways from directing Marvel Strike Force’s latest live-action campaign: - This is a service job. The client’s not just paying for great commercials, they deserve a great experience making them. As a director hired by the client, I was a one-man agency and it was my responsibility to make sure that happened. - Shooting 3 separate commercials in 2 days is not normal. As soon we started storyboarding, my producers were worried about the amount of coverage and locations. But we pulled it off. It would have been impossible without the alignment I had with Craig Owens at Scopely and the folks at Marvel. Very grateful for that collaboration. But when things need to change - and they will - let the AD be the bad guy :) - Hiring EPs with rate cards and local crews in many markets made it easy to pick a shooting location that maximized our budget. Thanks Steve DeVore and 8th Street Productions! - Reaffirmed for me that 50% of a director’s job is picking the right cast. Chicago has great talent in each demo, but compared to LA, less quantity in each demo. Be prepared to expand casting to New York if necessary. - Chicago has tornadoes and inclement weather. Prepare backups. - Working hour limits with kids are sensible limits. The young ones will run out of gas well before you hit that limit. - Hire a double for your kids with a later calltime so you can shoot OTS and inserts after your lead “turns into a pumpkin.” - The Phantom camera is continuously streaming to its RAM. You get a very few takes before having to stop and commit takes to the SSD. - If you hire a technocrane, you can remount the head onto the back of a pick-up truck to get a “free” camera-car. - Production design is everything. Ben Bolton put out Facebook marketplace messages to owners of classic cars to get them to show up on set and complete the 1980’s flashback. - Kids today don’t all know how to ride bikes with reverse-pedal braking :) Your stuntman doubles as a private bike instructor. - Do it in camera! The pant-rip gag, the laser grid and moving wall were all practical FX. The VFX clean up we did is all invisible, like raising a prop higher into frame so it works for the letterboxing. Amazing work post work by Swing Set Productions, and having them there to previz in pre-production was crucial! - Protecting room in the budget from the beginning for Source Sound, Inc. and Blake Robinson was one of the smartest decisions we made. Lastly, on a personal note: If you know me, you know the long journey my wife and I have had with fostering and adoption. When we wrapped this shoot, the parents of the youngest actor on set came and told me that I worked really well with kids. That’s the memory from this show that means the most. ❤️ #marvel #scopely #commercials #director #setlife

Giving more props to our great collaborators!
It's National Coffee Day! To celebrate this brew-tiful holiday I’d like to post some recent work we did with our friends from Haberman for Cameron's Coffee. I can’t espresso how much fun it was to work on these. Because we like to share the love, Kathy Awe, 8th Street Productions, Grey Ghost Sound & Matthew McClain were excellent partners on this project. Life happens, coffee helps. #NationalCoffeeDay #postproduction #edit
