October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The purpose of this month is to educate people about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of workers with disabilities. “Our communities and economy are strengthened by the inclusion of all people, including people with disabilities,” said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Taryn M. Williams. “Their contributions have historically been vital to our nation’s success and are more important today than ever. We must build an accessible, equitable economy that fully includes the talent and drive of those with disabilities.” #NDEAM

Thank you, JET/FOX/YourErie, for helping spread the word and helping us create a more inclusive experience for trick-or-treaters, particularly those with autism or who may be nonverbal. The blue bucket serves as a wordless explanation that the child may have autism and possibly be nonverbal. Autism Speaks reports that 40% of people with autism are nonverbal, which can make participating in Halloween activities challenging. We have free blue pumpkin trick-or-treat buckets available at our office on 2503 W 15th St. Stop in between 9 AM to 4 PM to pick up your free blue pumpkin bucket. https://lnkd.in/efXDztFU

Ever wonder what a service coordinator does? At A Bridge to Independence, we promote independent living by connecting individuals with disabilities to personalized home- and community-based services. Our service coordinators are experienced professionals with deep industry knowledge and strong connections with all available service providers. This means they are well-equipped to help individuals set personalized goals and move beyond any limitations they may face. 

The Bridge team uses its deep knowledge of how to fully navigate the system to help others see that those with physical or intellectual disabilities needn’t think that nursing facilities and institutions are their only options. Instead, they can confidently move beyond their limitations, remain at home, and thrive.
