  • #AAFE50 Snapshots: Scenes from our afternoon panel, and AAFE 50th Anniversary Gala Honorees 🌟 👉 Our program kicked off with a panel featuring trailblazing voices in the realm of community development: (left to right) Margaret Chin, Doris Koo, Phil Thompson, Lydia Tom. Conversation was moderated by AAFE Board President Cathy Kim. Our afternoon program concluded with remarks by Peter Tu, Executive Director of Flushing Chinese Business Association and newly appointed member of Governor Hochul's AAPI Commission. 🙌 Honorees were presented with awards in recognition of their lasting, invaluable community impact. They included Corky Lee (posthumous, accepted by his brother, John Lee), the pioneers of AAFE, Senator John Liu, Enterprise Community Partners (represented by Shaun Donovan, CEO and President of Enterprise), as well as a selection of longtime small business clients of Renaissance, AAFE's small business affiliate. Stay tuned for more to come from our gala and fiftieth year! 📸 Photos by Cindy Trinh

  • 🌟 Lions fed, laughter shared, and a new chapter inaugurated: Snapshots from our #AAFE50 Gala! THANK YOU to all who joined us last week to celebrate our fiftieth anniversary, taking part in our mutual vision of equitable community development. A special thanks to our incredible master of ceremonies, CeFaan Kim, as well as our lead sponsor of the evening, Wells Fargo. What a pleasure to be joined by an array of our elected official partners to present proclamations commemorating the occasion! Alongside Senator Iwen Chu, we were thrilled to announce a major milestone in AAFE's emergency stabilization of 345 Ovington Ave. in Bay Ridge—safeguarding the livelihoods of twenty families. Stay tuned for more to come from the gala and our fiftieth year!

In Washington, d.c. Tuesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen convened the inaugural Asian American and NHPI Economic Summit. Our executive director, Thomas Yu, participated in one of the panel discussions. More than two decades ago, AAFE created two affiliates - Renaissance Economic Development Corporation and AAFE Community Development Fund - to facilitate access to capital for immigrant small businesses and first time homebuyers. Thomas talked about the importance of community-based financial institutions in providing pathways out of poverty for underserved populations - and serving as emergency first responders in times of crisis. We appreciated the opportunity to share our experiences! #accesstocapital #smallbusiness #cdfi #homeownership #aafecdf #aapiheritagemonth

Which makes it fitting that two AAFE leaders are featured in City & State — it’s their annual “Power of Diversity: Asian 100” list. Congratulations to our executive director, Thomas Yu, and to Jessie Lee, managing director of AAFE affiliate @redcnyc Thomas has been on the frontlines for many years, helping to innovate affordable housing solutions across NYC. And Jessie has worked tirelessly to assist our small businesses thrive here in NYC and now across the state and in New Jersey. We appreciate both of them and all of the amazing AAPI leaders featured!
